Sorry ro learn that PYREX will no longer be made as it's in chapter 11.
It has been a household staple for as long as I can remember. Originally produced by the French, then America made good use out of the product as it also lent itself to our Space Program with the tiles and the outer bottom shell of the Space Capsules. I've been loyal to the product and care for my items which won't leave my ownership until I pass on.
I am not refering to the pyrex brand (cheap substitute that breaks and chips and is spelled with lower case letters).

Chapter 11 is retructuring, did it say they were eliminating pyrex?

PYREX is not the same as it used to be. They stopped using bore silica in their products years ago which means it no longer has the "from freezer to oven without breaking" capability.
I picked up some OXO glass storage pieces recently at BBB before they closed and was surprised to learn their glass products do use bore silica as does Lock n Lock glass.

I have been very pleased with Anchor Hocking, some very good deals at HSN for sets.

Amazon Sells borosilicate Pyrex brand glassware. It's considerably more expensive than their regular glass stuff by about double in price.

I have my mom's. I've thought about donating it, but I still use it! So I think I'll treasure it a little longer! ![]()

On their website, they say they are restructuring using Chapter 11 and will not be going out of business.

@Icegoddess Not sure but Fire-King may still be using borosilicate glass. I purchase a lot of vintage items at estate sales and know the old ones were borosilicate.

I've never been a fan of glass cookware or dinnerware. To me, all of it is hard to clean--far more difficult than good porcelain, ceramic or enameled cast iron.
I love it for storage or serving, but not cooking.

You can never go wrong w/OXO products. Always up to par.

@Sooner I have a few PYREX pots & baking bowls. I have never had an issue w/cleaning either by hand or diswasher. Food slides right out - never sticks. It could be because all of mine have teflon or some other non-stick material on the bottom.
