Kale doesn't turn into the exact texture of a fried or baked chip. More like the crunch of a dead leaf.

Like the oak leaves in the yard?

I'll take microwave popcorn.

Cold winter evenings make me crave junk food none stop. Doesn't matter if it's in the house or not. Veggies or fruit just won't do. Sometimes I can sub a cup of yogurt instead of ice cream and I'm happy. For chips, sometimes munch on oyster crackers. Not quite as bad.

I actually would rather have yogurt than ice cream. (Yes, I realize practically no one else feels that way!) I always have a big container of plain yogurt in my fridge, and I mix in fresh berries, a cut-up peach, or whatever. Sometimes I put it in a ice cream cone, but usually just a small dish. Love it!

However, a salty craving is a salty craving, and I get that a lot! I keep Dutch pretzels around for that. They're large and thick, so harder to chew than regular pretzels. I figure anything that slows me down is good!

Popcorn and nuts are also standbys. And chick peas - I snack on them a lot. Kiss

I enjoy crunchy foods (snacks) but don't eat potato or tortilla chips. I've been making kale chips lately and they are great. I take off the stems and wash and dry the kale. Put it on a cookie sheet with a little olive oil and some salt and herb/spice mix. Bake at 350 for about 12-14 minutes.

Roasted mixed nuts are also a good snack.

Thank you, I've copied this and will have to try it. Hubby has the chips here for him and it's my one really hard to leave it alone thing. I don't bring anything in the house I don't want to eat.

I thank everyone for ideas. I appreciate it.

DeeJoyce, I totally agree with what you said, and yes I'll do the oyster crackers, thanks.

I have to try the chick peas, I've never had those. Thanks again.

I think if you could say whether you are counting calories, carbs, fats, it might help with ideas. Great suggestions so far.

I'm on Weight Watchers. Was going to try "fasting" but I know me and I love fruit to much. Well, food! LOL. But I've done it before on WW and intend to again. The closer I get to my goal, the harder it gets, and variety is the spice is right.

I like munching on rice cakes, especially the caramel ones.

If I have things like this in the house (not salty for me, but sweets) I must eat it until it's gone! So, generally I don't buy them. I make sure I'm not hungry when I go marketing, then I'll reach for things like fruits, etc. Then when I go foraging for food in the fridge, there's something healthier to eat. One of the best bangs for your buck is a Granny Smith apple--it takes a lot of effort and awhile to chew, and you really don't want anything else after that! A bit of peanut butter or honey is a good accompaniment.

When I'm being good, I like to snack on pumpkin seeds. They're just crunchy enough to be satisfying. I also found that a small piece of very dark chocolate is very satisfying, as opposed to scarfing down an entire Hershey bar.{#emotions_dlg.blush}

I don't like chips, but I would eat Cheetos, Pirate Booty, and Cheeze-Its but the boat load if I bought them - so I almost never buy them. My favorite snack things to keep on hand are popcorn and cherub tomatoes with hummus, usually one with more garlic.

One of my favorite restaurants serves zucchini chips, which are super thinly slices zucchini rounds fried and salted with some basil thrown on. They are SO yummy, but friend. Here's a recipe for baked zucchini chips that's really good. You can add some basil or whatever else you think would be good. The bakes ones aren't as thin or they'd burn too quickly.

Sugar snap peas. Sort of expensive but so is a heart attack.
