I keep my Breville on a wood butcher block type table and have NEVER had any problems with is getting too hot or scorching- I would never buy another brand after owning the Breville... It is THAT good!

I couldn't agree more ... it is THAT good! I have mine on a microwave stand that has a wooden top ... no problem at all. The outside does get very hot, but so did my B & D toaster oven.

ok, so many good reviews here for the Breville, I think that's what I will go for. Sounds like it has so many other uses also. There are only two of us now and that way I won't have to heat up the big oven as often either. Thanks everyone for all you replies.

I have two Breville Smart Ovens - highly, highly recommend! We have the larger one here and at the cottage, where it is used almost exclusively. It is well worth the money. chum

I've been through several toaster ovens over the year and of course most workplaces have had one and I agree, I don't know what it is about them, but they seem impossible to maintain in like-new condition. Even after cleaning, they reach a point where they almost always look dirty. Still, I wouldn't be without one. I have a little red Oster combination toaster and convection oven and while it too looks a little the worse for wear, it's been a good one. At one point, I tried one of the wide-slot toasters, but went back to an oven because they're more versatile and I also really like the convection feature.

Another Breville gal here, use it for everything! I've always had a toaster oven, so when my last one bit the dust I chose this, I looked at the reviews from William Sonoma site. Best ever. I can bake a cake in it, never would dare to do that with another brand.
