Great! our state is listed and we're off to get groceries later.  I wonder, is someone not doing their job, or have they cut out things that help protect us from this sort of thing? Oh well, here we go again!!

I think we're better off preparing our own vegetables.  We live in Florida and Publix has a whole section of their produce department devoted to cut up fruit.  It's convenient but expensive.  So I've been tryng to buy whole produce and cutting up my own fruits and vegetables.  Now at Publix, the fruit is being cut up in each individual store, but I think the fruit and vegetables that are being delivered to the stores already cut up have the potential for many problems between the processing and the delivery to the store.

The more something is handled, the more likely it is to be contaminated.  As products are "processed" they are at risk for contamination.

I have always had a bit of an aversion to raw fruits and veggies pre cut in groceries and at restaurants and buffets. 

 

There is truly no way of knowing how well the items were washed and handled or how well sanitation practices were honored by the employees. 

 

I've been called out in my own home by distant family when they saw me washing fruits like watermelon and cantaloupe with a stiff brush and soap, and rinsing heavily before cutting through, but while we can't protect ourselves from every little thing, to err on the side of safety and caution is important to me when it come to food safety.

@Mominohio  I'm the same way.  Never know who has handled them and how.  I know, they're supposed to wear gloves, but still.  It's a lot of work to do it yourself w/all the rinds and stuff, but I'd still rather do it myself.  I wash them w/soap, too Smiley Happy
