Since I live a carnivore lifesyle 100% of the time and DH lives it 5 of 7 days a week, meat is our main staple food in our home.

We get awesome deals at Costco. DH buys 15-20 lb loins all the time...ribeye, NY strip, chuck and brisket. And, he'll also get 8-10 lb slabs of lamb too when it's available...LOVE lamb!

Anyway, he'll bring them home and cut them up into 14-18 oz steaks. Then he'll put them in freezer bags/vacuum pack them.

The brisket he'll cut into 2-3 pieces depending on the size to smoke when we have it.

Most of our seafood/fish we also get at Costco.

As for 80/20 ground beef, we'll get it at Hyvee, Super Saver or Walmart when we run low to stock up again.

As another poster has mentioned I don't know how people manage who have a family to feed.  Scary times for sure.

DH prefers chicken or salmon..A few weeks ago when m kids came to visit It cost me $62 and change for a 5lb. eye round beef roast on sale.. plus everything else for dinner..I'm in upstate NY..I paid $7.99lb for 85/15 ground beef last week ..it was on sale to get the sale price had to buy 6 lbs.!..I have a freezer and I break it down into portions before I freeze it.. I don't know how some do it..putting that much out  for 1 item on the weekly grocery list. $2 lb for sweet potatoes...don't even get me started on eggs!

I fed a family of 4 for a week on 5 lbs of ground beef many times when mine were young!  It can be done!

@SharkE. Dont you have an acre or two of land AND a barn? There you go. Buy yourself a yearling steer, fatten it up and you'll have a huge supply of Prime beef. You could sell half or 3/4 to offset your expense.

There doesn't seem to be any relief in sight on meat, coffee and grocery prices rising either.  Beef and veal prices are up 13.9% from last year, while fresh fruits and vegetables prices are rising at a record rate.. Tomato prices rose 4.5% last month, lettuce 3.5% and bananas 2.1%, the CPI shows. Overall, fresh vegetable prices climbed 3.0% in August, the largest monthly increase since 2020 .  Coffee, hold on to your hats, is up 20.9% from Aug. 2024 to Aug. 2025.

How can that possibly be when we're being told repeatedly that inflation is way down and everything in the economy is hunky dory!

  North of Boston, beef prices have been high. I have only been buying ground beef.

  Two weeks ago Stop & Shop advertized sirloin steak tips for

$8.99. That was better than when I have seen them as high as

$14.99 per pound. So I went to get some and the case was empty

early in the day on first day of sale. I think that they never got their shipment.

 All the meat cases were sparse, like they were during covid.

 I try to buy what is on sale and there have been sales on pork and chicken both about $2.99 per pound.

 I read that one reason for the shortage of beef and the high prices is because of the lack of water in Texas. With no water for the cattle, many have stopped raising cattle and that has created the shortage, thus higher prices.

 For my family of three, I know that I am spending twice as much per week for all groceries, than I did a year ago.

@ciao_bella - no relief from the massive damaged he's brought to our lifestyle including medical. I'll say now more than ever before I'm grateful for not eating animals my grocery shopping has always been low cost including farmers market.

I'm not paying more for groceries, shop sales, use coupons, stock up on great deals. I buy grass fed & grass finished beef at Aldi, today they had a several New York strip & rib eye steaks marked half off...they're in my freezer.

We eat basic and we don't eat three times a day.  We don't eat traditional cereals, breads, cookies, donuts, cakes, freezer waffles, chips, etc.  We are blessed to be able to buy what we want but I do my best to get the best prices possible.  The last time I bought ribeyes they were around $15/lb.  Boneless skinless chicken breast were $2.99/lb.  Boneless pork loin chops were very affordable.  We have a chest freezer and a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer in our garage.  Spring thru fall, I keep both freezers well stocked and the fridge side holds extra eggs, heavy cream, cheese, yogurt, etc..  We only use the side-by-side spring thru fall, it's empty during the winter.  We get our bacon, sausages, steaks, boneless skinless chicken breasts, pork chops, and frozen veggies and frozen berries, some fresh produce at Costco.  I've ordered Alaskan wild caught salmon from the Costco website a couple of times.  It's pricey.  I don't make it often so it lasts a long time. Grassfed ground beef from Aldi, around $5.50 or $6/lb..  Yogurt, heavy cream, and pasture raised eggs come from Sam's Club.When our DS visits, sometimes he'll shop from our freezer.  We don't mind in the least.  When I make dinner on the days he visits, I make more than necessary and send the leftovers with him, to help offset their grocery bill a little.
