I mainly just use mesquite and hickory chips. Tried apple one time and didn't like it at all. Got a cheap smoker, but, you have to open a door to restock the wood all the time, not as handy as this one will be. my cheap one you have to fill up the water bowl too.

You should try some pecan and some cherry wood. Yum!!! Here is a link on Q that shows what woods they recommend. Click on the Wood Smoking Guide when the link opens. http://www.qvc.com/Masterbuilt-30-4-Rack-Electric-Smoker-wCover,-Recipes-&-Accessories.product.K4114...

This is so tempting. I like to comparison shop and found that Walmart and Sams plus Amazon and lots of other places sell these. Not sure we'd need all these added things such as a rib rack and others that the TSV has. Just more stuff to store. But do like the features, but again, these can be found other places. Just not sure this extra stuff is worth the money and the problem of having to send it back if there's a problem. That is if one can be purchased locally. Has anyone bought one elsewhere with these features such as the large window and remote control?

I never saw them show how to clean it while I was watching the one episode today. If this have been discussed, sorry for the repeat of asking how easy it is to clean? That's important to me due to age and back issues.

Our 56 anniversary is coming up in Nov and seems like a good gift to get and this thing looks great for cooking lots of meats, packaging and freezing for later use. Save lots of time if the meat would keep well. We do have a food saver so it should keep quite well I would think. Does anyone have any ideas on these things? Appreciate any help on deciding what to do. I know it has to be our decision, but other's ideas help too. Thanks. GD

We bought ours at Lowe's several years ago on closeout. Ours does have the digital temperature controls, air damper, side chip loader so you don't have to open the door, the thermometer probe. It did not have wheels so DH took off the feet & put wheels on it. It does not have a glass door or a remote. I see no need for either. We paid about $130 for ours. DH also has the blue gloves & a different pair he bought from Amazon which he likes better for the hot foods. We don't use a rib rack or a sausage rack. Ours looks like the one on Amazon for $177 free shipping. If you want to buy one I would suggest to get one with the digital controls. I would not buy the analog older smoker on legs. Check in your area to see who carries them in store to see if anyone has them on closeout. My post #18 shows how DH cleans it.

Thanks Nightowlz.

OT but think it might be appropriate in a way because of your "name". I heard the strangest animal sound outside our bedroom window one night and after much research, found out it was coming from a Barred Owl. The sound goes like this. Who, Who, Who Cooks for You. Sounds crazy I now, but that's the words used to describe their sound. Have heard it again fairly recently. Fun. Maybe if anyone is interested in trying to find a youtube video of this owl making that sound, could possibly find it on google. It might also be called a Barn owl but the one I saw said Barred. Sorry this isn't about smokers. LOL

We just finished dinner. Alittle early for us but I was ready.

We put the ribs in on the rib rack for 2 hours, took them out and I put carrots, butternut squash and onions in the bottom of a pan. Put the ribs on top of the veggies. I made a sauce of honey, stone ground mustard, yellow mustard and white wine and put over the top.

Cover with saran wrap and then cover air tight with foil. Back in the smoker for 4 hours. All I can say is AWESOME. So good!

You probably never ate smoked and seasoned food LOL fine eating !

Are you referring to my post? If so, we smoke food all the time, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, Thanksgiving turkey for the last 20+ years, salmon, standing rib roasts. I just prefer actual wood smoking instead of baked in an electric oven with some chips. None of the food I saw in the presentations showed a noticeable smoke ring either.

I noticed that also. There is only a three month warranty which is a turn off. the brisket did not look the way a brisket should, but I blame that on the cook.

We have the all black model, no glass. Cleanup is not fun. My husband wiped the outside down with Simple Green and screwed up the finish. We leve it outside on the screened patio year round. I read somewhere you could sort of season the outside with oil, but haven't tried it. If you don't care if it looks pretty it's not a big deal. I can't even imagine trying to keep the stainless clean.

We have an older version of the Masterbuilt smoker and love it. So convenient, we just roll it out, use it and clean the racks. I did hear them say the best thing to use if you do want to wash the inside is cider vinegar. We purchased a remote thermometer that slips in through one of the vents, but it would have been nice to have that already included with the unit. You can't go wrong with Masterbuilt.
