I use the spurtlle rest when I make Hassleback potatoes. I cut the potato on the rest and I don't have to worry about cutting the potato all the way through. Unfortunately this will eventually ruin the rest so I will either have to buy another spurtle set or find something else to use!

Try using the wood chopsticks fresh Asian restaurants.

I use an old wooden spoon with a broken handle.  Just put the potato in the bowl of the spoon and slice.
