Kitchen Sink

I wasn't sure whether to post here or over in the home forum.

I am finally getting new countertops put in and as a result I'm looking for a new sink. I want a granite composite, not stainless steel.

I'm leaning towards trying a big single bowl style. Any real cons? I do own a dishwasher so I'm not handwashing plates, flatware or glasses on a regular basis.

While I like the look of the single sinks, I decided against it for myself. I realized that I would have to keep a dishpan or something similar on hand for those occasional times that I do need to handwash some things. For instance, I handwash pots & pans, as well as my good knives.

Good luck with your kitchen re-do...we finished ours about 2 years ago (did it in stages over 18 months) and it was worth every penny!

I went from a home with a single farmhouse sink to a home with a small double sink. I hate the small sinks and would go back to a large single sink in a flash.

My current sink is a single, and I'd change it in a minute to a double. I too have a dishwasher, but I do use the sink sometimes to wash dishes (for instance, after a big party).

Ooh, how fun! I'd love to do some kitchen updating.

I have a double sink where one side is larger and deeper. The side that is smaller, however, isn't a lot smaller. It's just a little smaller and a little less deep. I like that. I've seen some where one side is HUGE and the other is tiny. That wouldn't seem terribly practical to me.

Mine is porcelain, though. I wouldn't mind having stainless steel again. I've had that in the past and liked it.

But, IMO, a double sink is best for my use and I really do like that one side is slightly larger and deeper than the other. That is the perfect size set up.

Hey Tansy! I'm in the process of looking at granite samples to replace my countertop. What brand and color did u choose? I also do not want a stainless steel sink. I'm thinking porcelain, but I'll have to check out the kind you're leaning towards. I definitely want an undermount one. Thanks in advance!

CB, I would love your sink! I don't have a dishwasher but since it's just me that's not a big deal but your combination would work perfect for my needs!

I originally wanted quartz countertops for easier maintenance. I saw some gorgeous ones but nothing that was quite right with the cabinets and surrounding areas (grand room concept). So, we cruised the stone warehouses endlessly. Even when you have seen a granite sample or picture you like, the slabs at the warehouses can be totally different -- very frustrating.

So, having said that, we found two slabs with enough cream in them to help brighten up the kitchen. The name was Giallo Royale but I think that's just a foo-foo name for Colonial Gold

What granite are you looking for?

Chickenbutt -- I had a wonderful old sink in the house where my kids grew up. It had two large, deep bowls and then a small prep sink with the garbage disposal in the middle. Even if I could find that style again, it would be too large for the available space.

I find remodeling stressful actually.
