Re: Jan. 17 Today is HOT BUTTERED RUM DAY !!!!!

We made hot buttered rum mix all the time at Xmas.

It called for a quart of vanilla ice cream, a lb of butter and a box of brown sugar. Kept it in the freezer. I'm pretty sure that was the recipe. I don't make it as I don't drink now but it was very good with brandy in it as well as rum.

Re: Jan. 17 Today is HOT BUTTERED RUM DAY !!!!!

I like hot buttered rum on a cold night, with or without the rum. We used to drink them after skiing. I've never had mine with vanilla ice cream though, sounds delicious. Recently I came across a tin of hot buttered rum mix made by The Spice Hunter that someone had given me. It's still good since it is just a blend of spices in a sealed tin. It contains brown sugar, Chinese cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice, cloves, and lemon oil. The recipe just calls for 1 Tbsp of mix, 2 tsp butter, 6 oz boiling water and a jigger of rum. It would be easy to make your own mix. I made it without the rum and it was delicious and smells divine. I even put a tablespoon of it simmering on the stove to enjoy the aroma. It would be really good with vanilla ice cream, in eggnog, or egg mixture for french toast.
