After years of using Finish, I switched to Cascade Platinum (in silver foil bags) when Costco had them on sale a few months ago.

I was getting fed up with Finish and love the Cascade Platinum.

It's more expensive, though, than plain regular Cascade, so I can't judge how much better the Platinum is.  I do know it's better, at least in my dishwasher, than Finish.

I am anxious to try the Dawn Power Wash for non-dishwasher uses.  Dawn has always been a great liquid detergent.

@novamc1 @Dawn is the best. Checkout Pinterest for a recipe to make your own dishwasher detergent using Dawn. I have been doing it for three years and the dishes come out squeaky clean.

Cascade Platinum is the best there is!

Re: Impressed with Dishwasher detergent

I was using Finish pods in my new Bosch, purchased almost two years ago now. I had a problem with the machine not turning on not too long after I got it. The panel is - unlike the Maytag it replaced (don’t waste your money) - horizontal, inside the door. Something sticky apparently got on the buttons and the repairman simply cleaned them and gave me a warning. I have been very careful ever since to not let any liquid spill onto that panel.

I asked his opinion of the various detergents. He said I should always use Cascade POWDER. Go figure, but I have clean dishes every time and no problems. Maybe the pods work just as well, but I took the professional’s advice.

I live alone and run the dishwasher only when it is full, once or twice a week. I find it just stinks after a day or two, ever since I got it. Have ordered some dishwasher cleaner from the A company. Any idea why this happens? Not clogged with food or anything.

The smell you mention is probably caused by bacteria growing on the dishes that haven't been washed in days.

Easy solution.......either wash dishes by hand at the sink right after use, or run the dishwasher more often, so bacteria don't have time to grow.
