Re: I just watched FOOD NETWORK STAR for the first time… anyone else watch?

Oh wow, you're so right, Wildcat! How weird is that?

Is anybody watching the online part where two compete to get back on the show?

My friend's niece made it pretty far last year, Nikki Dinki.

BTW - She unfortunately lost her baby girl...she stood up at the last show of the season and was pregnant.

I've been watching. Nobody is really jumping out for me at this point but there seems to be a lot of contenders. This should be a good season.

I have a feeling that cowboy Bob (or whatever his name is) is their 'golden boy' for this season. Ugh! No likey the cowboy shtick. But we'll see.

I think the cowboy will probably win. At least he seems to know how to cook. But another loud boisterous guy on the Food Network will be just too much.

Sad to see the Italian guy has been eliminated. He sure looked and sounded great. All the male competitors seemed to have been glad (including it seemed Aldon).

I also think the cowboy will win--they seem to be giving him lots of camera time. I quit watching a few years ago---as it seemed too staged and stilted. When it started I was a huge fan.

Sorry to hear about your friend's niece--Terrier.

I remember her saying that she was pregnant. I was actually routing for her. Loved what she cooked. Sorry she lost her baby.

Luca is gone. Too bad. Alton didn't like him.

Re: I just watched FOOD NETWORK STAR for the first time… anyone else watch?

I have watched a few of these competitions in the past.......but I've tired of them, as I consider very few of the contestants they've brought on to be real "star quality". Few of the winners actually go on to produce regular, high-profile shows. Most of them seem pretty mediocre, if you want to know the truth.

I've really tired of the overload of contest shows on Food Network, HGTV, everywhere. I'd rather just watch an accomplished cook with talent and personality show me how to cook delicious, tasty, healthy, imaginative meals. Or an accomplished decorator show me how to make a room beautiful and workable. No time clocks, no buzzers, no titles, no racing around the studio trying to get things done in an impossible time limit. Silly, and not so much fun any more.

I haven't been watching it but some of past contestants are recycled FN guest spots. Rodney the pie guy was in a throw down with Bobby Flay, Bobby won. The dark hair attractive female was a contestant on Restaurant Impossible. I think FN likes certain personalities and nowadays, everyone wants to be a star. I don't know who approaches who, but there they are.

I kept staring bc they looked so familiar and when they ran old shows on cooking dot com - i caught the pie guy episode.

I did watch the Season when Melissa won but that's about it. Cooking shows have to have a back story as opposed to - here's a great recipe. They dance, make faces, hand gestures to entertain I suppose. My fav cooking show is ATK - straight forward.

Melissa is a great cook but I am not interested in her show. If they would just let her loose to cook. I watched the first episode but last night I watched the Tony awards.
