I would not be in a rush and would look a lot.  The suggestion for something simple and basic is a good idea.  I tend to like switching placemats, napkins, etc., a lot so if you got basic dishes, these items could be your pops of color and you could go with any patterns and colors you wanted.  Also, I never like the size of cups that come with most dishes.  So, I wouldn't buy the cups.  I would supply my own fun mugs!  Congrats on your new place and enjoy fixing it up!

@Jordan2 : Enjoy your new home!

I am a a lover of dishware. I recommend bone china. Light in weight, won't chip, beautiful.

I get all my dishware for amazing prices at local charity thrift stores. I have gotten Limoges and other beautiful heritage brands, some complete sets, others just dinner or salad/ dessert plates.

I absolutely hate Corelle bowls, cups, and mugs. They don't keep anything hot. And you might as well use bare hands to take hot dishes from the over because you'll burn your hands with hot food/drink on Corelle dishes.

I gave away the mugs/cups that came with my sets. The bowls work well for cold food/side salads and I set aside a couple for dog food.

I bought lighter weight stoneware mugs in a color that match my Corelle dishes.

I still have my Fiestaware and pulled out a few of the jumbo mugs for soup, cereal, or whatever. I miss my Fiestaware plates. I tore my rotary cuff and bicep so can't lift them.

Be careful if you pick a Corelle pattern. I bought mine less than a year ago and it's no longer made.

If I had it to do over, I probably wouldn't get Corelle.

I heard Prime Day is July 12-13 and Target is having sales then too. Maybe I'll get some better deals.

What excellent taste you have!  I too have Butterfly Meadow.

@mspatmac Woman LOLWoman Wink  What we have is sort of a mix-up and it goes with other dishes we have!  I especially love the bowls and those pasta bowls!  I am thinking we are mess eaters!  LOL!!!

I have a question about Corelle.  My husband said they are glass and we got rid of ours 30 years ago because he didn't like the feel of forks and knives on the plates.

Is it just him, like I told him, or does anyone else feel that way?  And he didn't like the cups either--I don't remember why.

So, can I say the magic words:  No, It's JUST YOU!  Woman Very Happy

How about one of those Dollar Stores?  I've seen some very nice dishes there.

@Jordan2

My suggestion would be to first look at the bowl size offered in sets, then pick the set you want.

If you need a bowl for cereal but a different size for soup, you can always add on a few loose pieces in white.

I would look for drinking glasses with straight sides that don't flare out at the mouth.  They don't don't in dish washers well.

All dishes today are microwave and dishwasher safe.  Find a pattern you will enjoy for years.

@ScrapHappy where I live they have a store called Amazing Savings. They carry all kinds of merchandise at affordable prices. They do have dishes, but I want to buy something nice, I feel anything I get from Amazing Savings won't last very long.
