So I just moved into a new apartment and need so much. I'm trying to stick to a budget trying to spread the money around to get most of what I need. I'm looking to purchase a set of everyday dishes. I live alone, four place settings would be enough but six would be better ( you never know when you'll have company). I have been looking at some Corelle sets not sure about color, pattern, or shape. Also is it better to get a set with two bowl sizes, or cereal bowl size and mugs? I'm leaning towards no mugs I figure I can get a set of mugs I like. I don't know if Corelle makes many sets with two bowl sizes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: I Could Use Some Help

@Jordan2  It's just DH and I here.  We changed dinnerware about a month or so ago, from big heavy stuff to plain white (Winter Frost) Corelle and we are very happy with it.  You can buy a set of four place settings for right now, then add on individual pieces from the Corelle website, or Walmart, as other financial demands ease up.  Or do it the other way, buy only what you need right now, two of everything, and add on as you are able. Only you will know the pieces you prefer to use.

You might also try looking on Marketplace for preowned Corelle.  You might be able to get everything you want and stay within your budget.

I love Corelle for everything except mugs. It doesn't hold heat very well. Plenty of cute, inexpensive ceramic mugs available.

Enjoy your new place.

Not a fan of Corelle. No patterns appeal to me and I just can't feel it's at all special.

So I had to shop my way through lots of other choices. Extremely nice dinnerware on Wayfair. I wanted 4 place settings with no mugs and bought a set I simply love, with a dinner plate and two kinds of bowls. It has four 10" dinner plate with a pattern and glaze outside and a lovely pattern on the surface of the plate. Repeating the theme it came with 4 deeper soup/cereal bowls and 4 wider salad bowls.  It is not Corelle, but actual iron stone in a beautiful blue-gray pattern. Does not chip. Dishwasher and microwave safe, made by Pfalzgraf.  Heavier weight than Corelle, good quality, and I'm proud to use it for just me. I rarely have a guest.

Before you you buy a set of Corelle, consider place settimgs  for 4 on Wayfair from various manufacturers. Free shipping. Excellent customer service.

Enjoy your new apartment and anything you buy to make it fun and beautiful just for you.

We absolutely love our pieces of Butterfly Meadow by Lenox.  You can find some great bargaines on Lenox web site, Macy's (with coupons and rebates) and other places.

They make bowls of all sizes, plates, soup plates and bowls, etc.  We eat a lot of meals out of shallow pasta bowls rather than plates now and it works better for most of what we eat.

Start out with a couple of plates and bowls, and expand from there with these dishes!  So many patterns, sizes, shapes and sales!  They are very sturdy and are not heavy at all.

Whatever you get enjoy and have fun using them!  Woman Very Happy

I am a Fiesta user but i just checked Macy's sale prices on sets of 4 and im in shock. The four piece set that i built my collection on from them on sale 10 years ago at 24.99 are now on sale for gulp, 49.99.

With that said, i dont know your style but if you are into assorted vibrant colors check out Amazon, Gibson Home Vibe set of 4, 12 pieces for $39.99. Wow.

I can't comment as only you know what you would use. I can tell you that Macy's very often has great sales. Also Wayfair has lots of choices.Personally I love white dishes, but I know some find that boring. Always fun getting new.

I too have the Butterfly Meadow dishes from Lenox and love them!  I got them here at QVC.  May get some other pieces as love this pattern.

Congrats on your new place!  Shopping and decorating is fun, so take your time and enjoy.

I also love Lenox plates, especially the butterfly pattern. They are both microwave and dishwasher safe, and although we have them for daily use, they are fancy enough to be used for special occasions as well. They are also a good weight, not too heavy or too light.  I have the small bowls and large bowls, but I use the small bowls the most (salad, desserts, etc.).

I do not like heavy stoneware dishes like Temptations at all, although they are pretty to see.
