Can't imagine (or don't want to) how much monies I've wasted on plastic containers.

Lock'nLock, Sistema, Debbie Meyers, you name it, I always destroy it!Woman Sad  Even when I send one filled with food for someone to reheat - I state this so I cannot be the only one - it comes back "scorched".  I've tried nuking on lowest setting to reheat things - things without pasta sauce - and sooner or later those dreaded scorch marks appear!Woman Frustrated

So now I've given up the fight!  I'm switching over to 'glass' (or whatever L&L uses) and using my current - expensive - plasticware to toss garbage in (egg shells, apple skins, etc., 'cause don't have a garbage disposal).

It would appear, I am the only one who can't properly avoid the dreaded "scorch" marks in their plasticware as the sales seem to abound.  Am I an epic failure or is there anyone else out there like me - constantly replacing their plasticware?Woman Wink

Re: I AM A PLASTICWARE FAILURE

@eddyandmeI'm frugal, probably even cheap, but I don't use plasticware I've paid for to reheat much of anything.  I save various sizes of various food containers, reheat in them once, and throw then throw those into recycle. I suppose I may be cutting a day or two from my life expectantcy -  but so far nothing noticeable.

I don't use plastic for reheating since we have been told of the fear of carcinogens formed by microwave and plastics.

I save food for refrigeration in plastic and reheat portions in paper plates or glassware such as Corning or microwave safe dishes.  I don't like things reheated in plastic.  Healthwise, it is not safe and it tastes terrible.

I buy inexpensive cereal/salad bowls from TJ Maxx or Big Lots so that I have an excess of microwavable dishes.  My husband frequently breaks dishes because of his physical issues but he likes doing things for himself, so I make sure I have an abundance of those.

I might store something in plastic but I don't heat it in plastic. So no scorches, and I think those tomato acid stains happen from heating in the plastic too.

I transfer to Corelle or paper bowls for heating, depending on sloppyness rating.

I don't heat anything in my L&L, I transfer the food to a glass bowl/plate for heating.

Something about eating food that's been heated in plastic just doesn't appeal to me.

Re: I AM A PLASTICWARE FAILURE

I try not to nuke anything in plastic ware.  When the food gets hot, especially if it is greasy, it will etch into the container and create marks.

i prefer paper or glass to heat thinks up in.  I have these great ceramic bowls with lids with a steam escape valve on the top of them.  I use them when I know something will be nuked.  I put them in DH's lunch box and they work fine.

The only scorch marks I have on my Lock and Locks are from DH taking it to work and reheating it there. Guess he'll soon have to buy more sets!

Re: I AM A PLASTICWARE FAILURE

I have eliminated 99% of the plastics in my kitchen.  I buy glass Snapware at Costco (same kind of closure as L&L) and Marshals/TJM.  Although the lids are plastic, the container itself is glass.

I do buy plastic disposable containers for when I send someone home with food, but I don't use them for our food storage.

No you are not the only one.   Last year, I gave away all of my Rubbermaid plastic bowls to my baby brother.

I now use OXO air tight glass bowls.  Matter of fact, I have an OXO kitchen.  I just love their products & gadgits.

The only plastic I kept are the gallon & 1/2 gallon L&L pitchers.
