Can any of you fine cooks tell me how to best prepare Potato Gnocchi? I've never had it, don't even know what it is, but saw some in the grocery store the other day along side the pastas and wondered how it is supposed to be prepared. The directions on the package are VERY vague and simply said to "boil it and serve with favorite sauce".
Boil how long, boil in water or a broth? salted, unsalted? and what kind of "sauce"? Is this referencing like an Italian sauce, i.e. marinara, spaghetti, etc.? Perhaps it's just a different form of pasta and should be cooked as such? Before I ruin it, however, I'd love to hear from you cooks who know what you're doing!
It reminds me of a sort of "dumpling" in the way it appears in the packaging. Is it "doughy" or slick after being cooked, more like a thick noodle? I've wondered if it could be used as a dumpling as in "Chicken and Dumplings"???
Any clarifications or suggestions on preparation and serving this dish would be appreciated. I would love to just try it and see what it's like.
Curiosity got the best of me and I picked up a package and now don't know what to do with it!
