Thanks so much for for explanation/experience! I have one of the little guys in the fridge to make today.
You're welcome. ![]()
Let us know how you like it iin the slow cooker.
If your cooker tends to run more on the hotter side, you might want to watch your breast to see if it gets done sooner, than later.

@DiAnne wrote:Whole turkey only on Thanksgiving. My local independent market cooks a different meat everyday so I will purchase a few slices of turkey and have a turkey sandwich for dinner during the year.
@DiAnne That would be SO nice!!! I can't stand deli turkey. Would love to be able to get that for turkey sandwiches!![]()

How do you get any browning on it if you cook it in a crockpot?@lovesrecess Generally, there isn't any browning or crisping in a crock pot because there isn't any drying out. I always pull the skin off before I serve. It's very moist, and off of a 9 lb breast, I get 2 + cups of broth.
If anyone wants a bite of browned turkey skin, at Thanksgiving I do have the big oven roasted turkey. The crock one is extra to send home and for sandwiches.
@lovesrecess I was looking up times for this small breast in the crock pot, and came upon a site where she said she puts her crock pot turkey breast under the broiler for a few minutes to brown.
My oven usually has stuffing and some type of vegetable casserole.

Made it. And it was good and moist.
Did a little tweaking, and added the gravy packet + instructions before adding to slow cooker. (Just couldn't add it dry!))
I think the problem is I ordered a white 3 lb. breast from Walmart and they substituted a white & dark piece. It was kinda flat and falliing apart and cooked to 180 deg. in 4 hrs.
I'll keep the rest for pot pie and will try it again with a real bone in breast next time.
Thanks!

Hi @denisemb ,
I'm glad that it came out moist, although it wasn't the kind of turkey breast that you had wanted.
I understand about adding liquid to your meat.
Sometimes I'll add a small amount of liquid to a recipe so that there's some in the cooker, like a quarter of a cup or less.
I've made the bone-in breast in the slow-cooker, too.
When you make it, make sure that you have enough room in your cooker, and also make sure that you allow enough time for cooking it, too. ![]()
I had a really large breast that took longer than I had anticipated to cook! ![]()

Probably at least three to four times a year and does not have to be a holiday. My son loves to smoke a whole turkey several times a year then of course we do the one at Christmas. That one is a Greenburg's turkey so there is a difference. As long as there is meat he will grill, smoke or barbecue and I am right there at his table!!

Oh, we have a good ole oval Rival crock pot that's a workhorse and cooks a tad bit fast., so I'll be sure to cook a larger breast, maybe bone in.
Thanks for all your help!

When turkey goes on sale for 38 cents a pound at Thanksgiving time, I buy about a half a dozen of them, and cook them up, debone them, and freeze in smaller portions for use throughout the year.
Honestly I can eat turkey once or twice a year and that is enough for me, but husband loves it, and I am trying to eat better, so having turkey already in the freezer, just heat and eat (but still a whole, unprocessed food) is not only economical at those prices, but quick and easy and healthier than other quick choices we might make.
So I guess we eat turkey a lot throughout the year.

@denisemb @Toppers3 Normally, I do a 9 lb turkey breast in the crock pot. I have to cut the back out and put it on the side so the lid closes. ( lbs takes 5 1/2 hrs for meat that slices nicely. If you cook longer, I've found the meat wants to chip. I get over a cup of broth.
