Hello Foodies, I have to attend a holiday dinner at a friend's home.  I do not know the hostess well.  I would like to take a gift to the dinner.  Any suggestions?  I appreciate your help!

How about fresh flowers?

If you don't know her well, I'd stay clear of things like wine or foods, unless you know her well ENOUGH to know if they like those kinds of things. It amazes me at the number of people who show up with a bottle of wine at the home of people who don't drink or serve alcohol.

I always think fresh flowers are nice, in an arrangement for the season, because they can be enjoyed then gone, with no more 'stuff' that may or may not match their decor.

I like a good quality flameless candle in ivory, as it would coordinate with most decors.

I've given candles, soaps--mildest of scents if I don't know them....I've also given matching holiday paper napkins in dinner and appetizer sizes, with a pair of coordinating taper candles, tied with a ribbon--always well received.....

I agree with you about wine and food.  I don't want to conflict with her menu and I don't know if they drink.  I like the idea of flowers and the candle.  Thank you for your suggestions!

When invited for a "Holiday Christmas Type Dinner",  I alway bring a "Poinsettia" for the Hostess or Host.  It says "Holiday" and is always so much appreciated.  Everyone else, brings a bottle of wine...

Penzey Spices has some very nice little sets of spices/seasonings.
