I'm finally trying to cook something with the IP, and right now, it's pressure cooking something for 35 minutes. What I need to know is this--while it's in the process of cooking, can I add minutes to my original cooking time? If anyone's out there right now, I'd really appreciate you getting back to me. Thanks!!

What are you in the process of cooking?  If you don't think 35 min. are enough, I would try cancelling it out and reprogramming it... although I've never tried it on mine, I think it could work... If I don't think I've put in enough time, I always wait til it turns off, then I reprogram in more time..

Thanks so much for responding. I'm cooking a half pork loin (thought there was only one piece of meat in the package, but turns out there were two pieces) which weighs 2.6 pounds, along with potatoes & carrots. Used the meat button, which set it for 35 minutes. After started, I got to wondering if I should cook just a little longer. Right after I posted this, I did a little research and found out how to change it. I'm now set it so the total time will be 40 minutes. Think that will be long enough, hope so.

I've checked and checked about the length of time and have come across all different answers. Some people just cook for 20 mins, some 25, 30, and even 50. The chart that comes with the IP doesn't have pork loin on it, but when I checked online, there was a chart that did have it and listed 20 mins/pound. I also tried calling IP, and one person there said I should instead adjust my time according to how thick the pieces are, not by the weight. I'm so confused!!!! Surely 40 minutes will do.

@qualityshopper I think what you have is pork tenderloin.  And I'd think 35 minutes would be enough for them  You can always check them after the time is up and if not done, put them back and give them another 5 minutes.

The pork tenderloins cook quickly.  Good luck!

@Sooner   No, actually they're not. They are labeled as just pork loin--that's also how they were advertised in the sales ad. I didn't even know they were two different things until I looked it up. Nevertheless, I think I should be OK. If anything, the meat will probably be overcooked. Oh well, better than under. Thanks for answering.

@qualityshopper.  Are you cooking the veggies with the meat?  If so they will be mush.  Thirty five minutes is much too long for vegetables.

That should be plenty of time for pork loin.  That's the time I usually use (unless I want it completely falling apart for sandwiches...then I'll add another 5 min. )and it comes out great... that sounds really good... I guess I'll have to buy one...

Have you just started using your IP?  ... I've had mine for over 3 years and I use it all the time... I love it... I love mine for making yogurt .... I usually use the manual setting instead of the presets for pressure cooking meat, etc... .It's fun to play with certain recipes... After awhile, you can kind of figure out how much time is needed for certain meats, etc....I would suggest you write you out a cheat sheet for different meats, etc....then tape it inside your cupboard door and look at it when needed...just an idea that helped me at first....and Don't be afraid of your new IP..... Have Fun!!

Hope everything turns out well and have a great evening!

@ptagirl   You must have an older IP without the yogurt setting.  I have the 6-function and want to make yogurt, so will you please explain how you do it?  What kind of container do you use?  For years I made it using a Dani Yogurt Maker using skim milk, a couple spoonfuls of commercial yogurt as a starter and plain gelatin to thicken.  It was very good but I think I pitched it during a move.

@Kachina624--Yes, I did cook the veggies with the meat. I knew that I probably shouldn't but thought I'd go ahead this time & see what would happen. They did turn out softer than I'd prefer, but still OK. I'll do differently next time.

@ptagirl--Thanks for the encouragement & the great idea of a cheat sheet. This was my first time using it. I've had it for about a month and have only done the water test with it. I've been nervous about cooking in it (figured I'd mess things up), but finally took the plunge last night. I did somewhat mess up when I first seared the meat. Think maybe I didn't have enough oil to keep the meat from leaving a few burn areas on the bottom. I've got a LOT of learning  to do. Smiley Happy
