Has anyone used Quark?

I keep seeing this in the grocery store. From what I read online it's a type of cheese (in a small tub) that's like a cross between creme fraiche and ricotta.

I'm wondering if I could use it like a butter spread on rye bread, etc... I think I'll take the plunge and buy it next time.
