$8 lb last week at tiny local market, was $6 all summer. They sell top quality meats and seafood. Its the only hamburg I buy. has zero gristle.

I haven't paid attention, the only meat I check the price on is prime filet mignon, that gets pretty expensive at times

We buy the Extra Lean (96%) ground beef from Trader Joe's and I think it's around $7.00/lb.
It's the leanest I can find. Watching my cholesterol and heart health.
It's good, I just wish it was organic and grass fed but the leanness is more important.....

I looked this morning to price chopped meat in a local chain supermarket in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY.
Sad to report that "80/20 ground beef" is $5.99/lb and 90/10 lean ground beef is $7.99/lb. This was a pile of ground beef packaged in plastic wrap on a foam tray, not preformed patties. Though not specified on the label, the less lean meat is likely ground chuck. Packages of more quantity of meat, a "family" package are slight less per pound.
These are very common prices for beef. I know because I rarely buy it because it's so expensive. When I have a craving for a burger, I might as well order a burger deluxe in a diner or coffee shop for a full meal that satisfies at about $10-$12 than spend $6 on a pound of beef and do all the prep putting the platter together!

It tends to be a bit pricey --the kind we purchase has no antibiotics or hormones in it.
We don't usually purchase it until it is on sale. Thenwe purchase a few and freeze them. At that time the cost for ground beef is about 5.99 a puond.

Have you tried ground bison? Heart healthy and I don't notice much of a difference in taste.
There is a great recipe online for Grilled Bison Burgers and Whisky Mayo yum. You could modify if needed.

I have tried ground bison (years ago) and just didn't care for the taste unfortunately.
Which is a bummer because it is heart healtier.
Maybe, I'll try it again. Thanks for the rec!

Talking about lean ground beef, my local Save-A-Lot sells 73% lean ground beef that's often more like 93% lean (or leaner). I've bought some fairly routinely that has next to no apparent fat and cooks up with no fat. I mean none. It's not always that way, as it's often obviously fatty, but sometimes you'll find nearly fat-free ground beef in their 73% lean packaging. I make a point of checking now when I go there to see what they have.
I'm not sure if they have an excess of 93% lean and can't sell it, so they package it as 73% lean at a lower price, but it's fairly common to find insanely lean ground beef labeled as 73% lean there. I don't know if it's chain-wide or just local, but if you've got a Save-A-Lot, keep an eye open when you shop. You might find some very lean hamburger at the 73% lean price.

Here 80/20 was on sale for $5.99lb...The pkg had to be over 5lbs... $7.99 for less than 5 lbs
It looked like it was 80% fat..I looked horrible..
It was light pink and white..I prefer 90/10 there wasn't 1 pkg.

I buy from AMZ Fresh and usually pay under $7 a lb.--- that's for 90-10.
