Re: Good food storage containers - not Lock and Lock

I was not aware of that, SuzyQ3. Thanks! I tend not to trust unless there's a sticker on it that says "No BPA" like my LnL. There's a lot of cheap imported plastic out there.

I too converted to all glass. I love L&L, but they do stain, my DIL won't

reheat in plastic and you really can't see thru them.

My leftovers get eaten much faster in the clear glass.

I get the pyrex assortment from Walmart.

They can go directly in the oven.

IMO, you're not going to find another brand that is as good as Lock & Lock. So, if you don't like them it just goes downhill from there. I've tried pretty much all of them and none work as well. Short of vacuum-sealing, L&L is the best for airtight and liquid tight storage.

They also have some Borosilicate glass ones. There is another brand called Glass Lock that look similar and are similar glass. But I've found them to be less than liquid tight, so the construction isn't as good. I also tried the Snapware brand and it was totally not airtight or liquid tight.

Like Blondy, I like the Pyrex brand too. You might not find as many different sizes and shapes but it's always been a stand up brand. However, they don't use Borosilicate glass anymore. They use the less-integrous Soda Lime glass. There are issues with that when used in heat only, I believe. For Borosilicate glass, the Lock & Lock brand is very good.

Anyway, those are my views FWIW Smiley Happy

ITA! nothing beats L&L . Snapware is at Costco in huge sets but it is just a L&L wannabe IMO

Re: Good food storage containers - not Lock and Lock

I've had a lot of L&L, and a few of the Prepology containers. Truthfully I prefer the Prepology ones as they seem to hold up better and the lids fit on more easily after they've been washed a few times in the dw. Have you tried those? A few of my L&L containers have snaps that are breaking off. No damage - just a result of wear I think.

I bought into the L & L and found them to be pretty bad. They haven't lasted and crack easily. They said they wouldn't stain, but they sure did. I have some of the newer Rubbermaid and the glass ones that I like.

I've tried everything, and IMO nothing is as good as Lock & Lock.

I used to sell Tupperware, so I had tons of it. After I got my first few pieces of L&L, I fell in love with the brand. And I gave all of my Tupperware away. There really wasn't anything wrong with it, but I found that I was no longer using it. L&L is just so much better.

I haven't had one problem with L&L - no cracking, the seals are always tight, and I think they're very well-made. I also think the sizes and shapes are very versatile.

As for staining, a great trick is to wet the piece and put it out in the sun for awhile. The stain literally disappears and it looks like new. I used to do this for tomato stains in my Tupperware all the time. I haven't had staining problems with L&L at all, but would do the same thing if I did. Kiss

I started a thread here for L&L lovers, no takers, but I am enjoying my Sistema, that lock from the bottom up, not the top down, and I have enjoyed the draining containers for years, that I bought originally from HSN......but they no longer carry.......Smile I like the idea of glass, but no, they are not water tight, and I also can not carry any items to work, as I work in a prison.....meaning......no glass.......{#emotions_dlg.ohmy} I bought my Sistema, in beautiful colors, from Amazon, and Casa.com........Cool

Forrest - I've seen a few presentations of the Sistema items and they seem to fill a completely different need. I don't have any of this, but it seems to be well-liked for use in the microwave. But, as for food storage, it probably wouldn't be optimal.
