Last Sunday during David's show, I bought (and still waiting for it) the Genius Nicer Dicer, 10 cup multichopper and I have a question.
When making potato salad with the larger cube dicer plate, do I first cook the potatoes and then dice them or do I dice them first and then cook the potatoes?
I LOVE potato salad but I hate making it.
What do you good cooks suggest I do? Thanks for any replies!

I boil my red potatoes skin on until fork or knife goes thru with no resistance. I peel while they are semi-cooled and cut into large cubes.
I don't know how large the "dice" is on this chopper but I'd think it's better (in my case) to boil them whole then dice.
I also mix my potato salad while the potatoes are still warm.

I don't have mine in front of me but I believe the large cube plate is probably 1/2 inch to 3/4 in in diameter. I believe it would be best to dice the potato before cooking. A softer potato may break apart during dicing. Of course, if you dice before cooking, watch the potatoes carefully once the water comes to a boil because it won't take long for them to soften given the size they were cut into.

I peel, cut the potato into fourths, put in refrig to cool then when cold you can put 'em thru the dicer. I would think if you use warm potatoes it would turn mushy and you would end up with mashed potatoes. I want my spuds cold. To speed up I put in freezer side of refrigerator.
My dicer has 2 blades. Hubbo hates big chunks in salads has to be all delicate for his highness so sometimes I use the small blade.LOL
My only gripe about the dicer is red peppers I can't find nothing that will handle a **** red pepper. I've got the 250 Kitchen Aid dicing kit that comes with the processor and the nicer dicer, etc. Those things are a PITA.

You mean red pepper like a green pepper? Put the flat pieces skin side down, then the cutting edges should go right through.

Seems like, by the time you go to all the trouble to cut stuff up so that you can further cut it up with this gadget, you could have just finished cutting it up with a knife and only have a knife to wash. ![]()

Having trouble getting the hang of those things. They're slick and slippery

I'd rather use a gadget like this then a knife because the finished product is more uniform and neat looking and one slam down of the dicer is faster then chopping this way and that way with a knife.
Rinse under the faucet after using.
I really like mine.
I like all of Chef Tony's stuff especially his steak knives never needs
sharpening saves a fortune. I bought 2 sets to always have some handy

If I lived by myself I'd do stuff the speedy way and not worry about the chunky onions, pickles chopped to big, etc. My husband weighs everything I do against the way 'mama' did it. LOL

I HAVE ALL THREE VERSIONS OF NICER DICER, I MOSTLY USE THE MIDDLE ONE, LONG RECTANGLE, I LOVE THEM, I SLICE THEN DICE BEFORE I COOK FOR POTATO SALAD, PLUS I CAN DICE SMALLER PIECES OF ONION, CELERY AND STORE EXTRA FOR OTHER THINGS LATER
