Re: Ga ga over a garbage can?

My dogs would figure out the motion sensor and I'd be putting a padlock on the thing.  Now wouldn't that be convenient?

Re: Ga ga over a garbage can?

I have a stainless steel garbage can with a foot pedal.  It closes softly, so it's barely audible.  The stainless steel matches my refrigerator and oven, so It doesn't look conspicuous.

I think I paid about $45 for it 8 or 9 years ago.  Works great.  I don't feel I'm missing anything on garbage can usefulness or convenience.

This is what Martha Stewart uses in her glamorous kitchen, shown here putting her round, wooden lid on it.

Re: Ga ga over a garbage can?

I have the Ninestars one and am very happy with it.  No room under the kitchen counter or in the tiny pantry for even a small garbage can.  I have a box in the pantry for recyclables. I have the canned cat food sitting in front of the can, so a foot pedal wouldn't work for me.  We get our trash bags from Costco and they work just fine in it.  It doesn't stink.

I use the plastic grocery bags for cleaning out the litter box.

@RespectLife , I agree about the plastic store bags. I use them for my garbagae bags, too. Also, good for use when walking your dogs. Wegman's no longer supplies them.I figure it's just to save the store $$$, but I haven't noticed the prices going down any. I'm sure others will eventually follow suit.

Actually @catter70

Wegman's fought the law here in NY.  They went to Albany and explained that studies have shown that  brown paper bags were just as detrimental to the environment as plastic bags.

Paper bags are biodegradable and easy to recycle or compost. But producing them in quantity requires a lot of water, fuel and cut-down of trees and is more expensive.

They were forced in NY to stop giving the bags....it wasn't their idea.  So Wegman's decided to do away with them across the board.

simplehuman 30-Liter Brushed Stainless Steel Kitchen Trash Can with Lid Indoor

I have one that sits at the end of my kitchen counter and opens the long way.

Hate an open trash can!

Re: Ga ga over a garbage can?

I like the motion sensor garbage pail. My niece's 2 year old son likes it even better. Everytime he comes by he loves to keep messing with it because of the light. Over time it stopped working. My other sister has one with the pedal and when I go to her house I am always waiving my hand over the sensor to get it to open. They laugh and say "the pedal, the pedal" so I decided to get one with the pedal for myself. Makes more sense.
