Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

Well. I for one had never heard of cannoli cake before Insaw this post, so thank you! Please let us know how you liked it, sounds delightful!

I can totally relate to having way too much to do before Christmas! Relax and enjoy!

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

[ Edited ]

My aunt had a recipe from the 60s and made it every year. She used a Sara Lee poundcake for the base.

Mix a pound of ricotta cheese, chipped semi-sweet chocolate, maraschino cherries, fresh grated orange rind and Grand Marnier with powdered sugar to taste. Split the poundcake, fill and frost with the mixture. Press sliced toasted almonds on the side.

She sometimes made a simple chocolate ganache (melted chocolate and heavy cream)  and spread this on top and let it drizzle down the sides.

Easy. No recipe required.

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

Me again... The original poster.

i bought the cake, served it for Chiristmas Eve, and it was awful!  I posted a review two days ago, but it isn't up yet.  Since I promised that I would give feedback, I thought I would at least come back here.

the top icing was sweet, and didn't really go with a Cannoli cake.  But then, this cake tasted nothing like a cannoli cake.  The cannoli cream didn't taste at all like cannoli filling.

all in all, it wasn't a cannoli cake in my Italian opinion.  Second, it wasn't a good cake in any way.  I'm sorry to report this, as I usually have great luck with QVC cakes, but this was a miss!

i hope you all had a great holiday!

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

I'm sorry that cake turned out to be a disappointment.

I had never heard of cannoli cake.  I've had cannoli pie. If you're ever in Southwestern CT, Luigi's has a really good one.

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

@LNoel1225  I'm so sorry you didn't like the cannoli cake.  That would be a big disappointment for your Christmas dessert.

I've thought about getting the Frankie Avalon tiramisu, but the reviews are mixed and it's really too expensive for me.  It also sounds small at 2 lbs.
