i'm looking for a review of the Frankie Avalon Cannoli cake.  I want to order it for Christmas, but there are no reviews, and I hesitate to order without seeing some feedback.

Anyone buy it and have any thoughts?

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

I don't know anything about Frankie Avalon's cake, but our local Shop Rite bakery has an excellent  Cannoli Cake for about $20.  It is twice the size of Frankie's and it is excellent.  I don't know where you live (I am in Northern New Jersey), but you might see if there is a local bakery that makes a Cannoli Cake.  You would save a lot of money and might even get a better cake.

No I have not bought it.  My thought is...NO WAY!
A 9" cake for $66?  I'm sure you can make it yourself for significantly less.

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

I can't give testimonial on Frankie's cake, but he sure is a good looking 75-yr old.  I know that has nothing to do with his cake, but I've been a fan since I was a lillt girl and he first burst upon the music scene.  Shyly, I confess considering spending $66 on a cake just because Frankie was presenting it Woman Embarassed.

I've never had one but it sounds fabulous. Is it possibly sponge cake, mascarpone filling and chocolate ganache on top? Now I want to make one, I'll have to go look for a recipe.

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

@JeanLouiseFinchYOU can make it for less maybe.  I can't, so if I wanted that cake, I'd buy if I saw good reviews.

I don't understand why so many posters talk about what the food costs when someone asks for reviews.  We who don't want to bake already know what the darn things cost and we know whether we can afford the price or not.

It's sort of like going to Edmonds and looking for reviews on a Mercedes and reading that I can buy a car that will do the same thing for thousands less.  I already know the prices and wouldn't bother to ask if I couldn't afford what I asked about.

Of course, I didn't ask the question, but that's now these food threads make me feel.   I hope OP gets an answer to her question - someone who has never tasted the cake talking about its cost really doesn't seem to be worth much - just my opinion.

I read reviews on another of his cakes and it wasn't good.  Put in a search for Frankie A's products and read up.

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

It could be the best tasting cake in the whole world and I still wouldn't pay $66 for it. Lots of local bakeries make delicious, fresh, cakes.  Don't understand unless you live in the woods, why people pay such high prices for food at QVC.  Everything local is fresher and cheaper.

Where we live in Michigan, we have a very large Itlalian population and you can get these cakes at a lot of places. My bff who has since passed, was itlaian and she made these every year and they are delicious.

If you do order it, I hope you love it.

Re: Frankie Avalon Cannoli Cake

thanks, millieshops!

I definitely can make a Cannoli cake, but with the price of mascarpone cheese and ricotta and chocolate chips alone, it is quite expensive even when making it on your own.  So you are correct when you say the price wasn't my concern at all!

I was looking to order because I have far too much baking to do at Christmas, and since my birthday falls on the same day, I like to have a variety of different cakes for my guests.  There is no way I'm baking five different cakes, along with the cookies and fudge that I do make!

I ended up just ordering it, knowing that if it is awful QVC will cheerfully refund my money, so there's no risk.  So far no reviews on how it tastes, even though it sold out in November.  This makes me feel cautiously optimistic, because complainers are the first to post!

In in any event, I will be sure to post a review after the holidays, to let people know my thoughts on it!

Have a a wonderful holiday season!
