My dear ex-husband introduced me to the most delicious sandwich.  For a long time I wouldn't touch them, when I did I was hooked.

Fry thin slices of Spam until brow, then fry an egg hard on both sides.  Then slather white bread with mayo, pile on raw sliced onions, the Spam and egg.  Try one!  Yeah, that's what I said too.

Ugh.  Just the thought of Spam makes me want to gag.  So fatty.  When I was a kid my father worked in a steel mill and when there was a prolonged steel strike the union provided surplus foods to their strikers.  And one of those gems was Spam.  I think the last time I ate Spam I was maybe eight years old.  Hope to never eat it again.

Funneee!!!!

Only it would be four times that ...but there would be Free Shipping....so there's that!!!

I had two cans of Spam on my "Covid Panic Food" shelf.....I'm going thru all that stuff ( canned tuna, soups, Peanut Butter and Jellies, "...

(And I realize I HATE canned foods!!!!  ( but remember the beginning of Covid when we feared truckers would get sick and not be able to deliver to stores....seems like a lifetime ago...but really not that long ago).

I also noticed that those "use by" dates are just a suggestion. EVERYTHING I've opened and eaten, some with expired dates, were fine.

I live in Austin, MN  home of the Hormel Company where Spam originated.  It was originally born and made for the troops in WWII because unopened it would last forever.  We grew up eating Spam in every way you can imagine.  Some love it to this day and some like me do not like it at all. It's best fried and really pretty good in place of ham in scalloped potatoes and ham.  We have a Spam Museum here where you can buy everything from a Spam fly swatter to sweatshirts.

SPAM has a huge following around the world!

If you check Amazon, you will be surprised at how many different kinds it makes.

I like it.  SPAM fried rice is yummy, SPAM salad is great and just plain fried SPAM is tasty!

I buy the individual packs because sometimes I just gotta have a plain SPAM and mustard sandwich!

Also, that keeps me from eating the whole can by myself!

I've never bought a can of SPAM in my life.  My mom never bought it either.  Sometimes I wish I could get up the nerve to try it.

My Mom used to buy it sometimes. This was in the fifties. I remember it coming out of the can whole and she would slice it and then pan fry the slices. They weren't mushy at all.

Get up the nerve? Really? Just buy it. It's not that expensive. If it turns out that you don't care for it, discard it. You'd think we were talking about caviar which is expensive.

It is canned meat but it is not expensive. Give it a try. I like it. I just saute a few slices and make a sandwich with it and mayo.
