She's a sweetheart though so I don't mind too much Smiley Happy

My grown daughter will also not eat onions. It is always hard to cook for her. Some foods I just do not like without onions. Going out to eat can be difficult as she is always looking for something without onions. Even when she asks for onions to be left off of something, they often put them on anyway. I just feel like she should just get over it.

Could it be she avoids onions because she doesn't feel great after eating them?

my son always says he doesnt like onions, but as long as he cannot see them he is fine. LOL.....i try to chop them as small as possible so he doesnt really notice them (soups and stews and chili). i have also substituted garlic powder or onion powder in the dish to get the flavor and taste, but no noticeable traces of actual garlic or onion.......these are my little "tricks". Noelseven. no, she says they don't bother her, she just thinks they are gross. She will pick them out if they are large enough or she will eat them if they are too small to see. When she was a child, I would use onion powder. My daughter travels the world for her work and eats in some very good restaurants. I am sure she does not make a big fuss about it then, more just at home, I think. Obviously, she avoids dishes known to have onions in them but many have them without being so obvious. It must really be difficult for those of you with actual allergies or sensitivities to onion and garlic to avoid them because really, it seems as if one or the other is in almost everything.

Re: Foods without onion or garlic

Our family has multiple people with food issues.......GS can't have milk products, GD is a vegetarian, DS won't eat onions or garlic, my Dad only one meat, poultry, etc. Except for the youngest who can't have milk and dairy products the others are just contrary IMHO.......so meal time is wacky when we get together. ......growing up I never knew anyone with food allergies. ........Some were picky but not to the extent that you see today. ..

I'm vegan therefore there is very little from QVC that I will purchase. I would never in my wildest dreams dare say to them you need to offer more vegan options or have a cooking show that is just vegan or fashion show that is just vegan etc. It isn't up to them to monitor the items that are aired for consumers it's up to the consumer to be aware of the things that they need from a product. So tired of whiners!

I'm glad she doesn't have to deal with the allergy! The daughter of a good friend also dislikes onions and picks them out or asks about various dishes Smiley Happy

Huh? The OP didn't say anything like that, nor did she mention QVC.

When growing up, my Mom never used onion or garlic...and that's a taste I've adopted. I never cook with onion or garlic.

Re: Foods without onion or garlic

I would be really upset if I couldn't eat onions or garlic. When I was little I didn't like raw onions in anything but cooked onions didn't bother me at all. Now I do like raw onions in things. Onions and garlic are just in so many bases of so many different things. I LOVE the flavor that they add.

I do feel for someone who can't eat them because I can't imagine how hard it is to get stuff made without it. That must be tough!

As for the poster who just thinks her daughter should get over it. Well, if you don't like a food, you don't like it. How would you feel if you were told to get over it if it was something you really hated? Most people who hate a food just don't eat it like you would with liver or shellfish but with onions they are added to almost every soup, sauce, appetizer and main course.
