The menu also depends on how long you think/want people to stay.
If you don't want to do mini-sandwiches, then I would do the following menu:
Cake, grapes, cheese/crackers, mini meatballs (make a lot more of this), veggies/dip, kid snack, beverages.
For the veggie tray, grape tomatoes are also easy to add. Just rinse the day before.
This provides a bit less of a substantive meal, but it is still plenty of food and still easy to do. Do as much of the prep the day before, and the rest on the morning of. Then get people to help you set out the food when they come over.
Also think about your local restaurants/grocery stores and if there is anything easy you can pick up there to enhance your menu. And when I mentioned prepared sub sandwiches that you cut up, I was not thinking of Subway. We have nice shops here that do them, but your grocery store might also do a sandwich ring or a sub sandwich that you could cut up into smaller portions.

For those who are trying to stay low carb or gluten free, you can have tuna, chicken, ham, shrimp OR a crab salad, homemade or store bought and put it in Belgian Endive leaves. I saw Giada's show once when she made a pork recipe and served it in the leaves. They are small but strong enough to pick up like a finger food but without bread or crackers! Egg salad in the leaves would be great for those who do not eat meat. You can even make them in advance and keep chilled until the party. I plan on doing this when I have a summer dinner party for the opening of our pool and tiki hut bar! We are not quite ready yet, hubby working on the decking, but I have already started a menu with all finger food appetizers. I plan on a lobster salad in the Belgian Endive leaves, cherry glazed meatballs, olives (green and kalamata) skewered on sticks with cherry tomatoes and some kind of white cheese such as Havarti or gouda. I may even put cubes of salami on some of the skewers.
Good luck and post some pics of what you decided to make! Have fun!

Hi isaboo,
A few years ago, I was in the same boat you are (going to the event and hosting the congratulatory after party) and wondering what would be quick and easy to serve with something for everyone. I went with a variety of frozen appetizers from the grocery store and schwans. Like the little quiches from Nancy's, rolled tacos, mini pizzas etc.. things that were heat and serve, but did not necessarily have to be served hot and did not require utensils, along with veggies with dip from the produce department. It was virtually stress and mess free and a big success. For the cold drinks, ice chests work good, we filled ours with ice and drinks before we left. I did the appetizers in the oven and microwave and was serving food less than 10 minutes after we got home. Everyone will understand a delay in getting the food out, so don't worry, besides you can visit with people while you are getting it ready to put out and they will help too. Don't worry and if they don't like what you chose to serve, they don't have to eat it. Just have fun and enjoy visiting with everyone.
