Does anyone have an induction range?

My mother is redoing her kitchen and wants an induction range with a double oven. I don't know where to start but have only been able to find one by Whirlpool and one by Electrolux that meets her requirements.

Do you have any advice on purchasing these and where from? Do you have any issues with yours and would have done agains if you could?

Re: Does anyone have an induction range?

My sister bought one a few years ago when remodeling her kitchen. I believe that she has the Electrolux brand...........I think she bought it at Lowe's or Home Depot. She raves by her new stove .........her old one was at least 25 years old and only half worked but the down side is that you can only use certain types of pans. Some of her favorite cookware pans did not work on the new stove so she donated them. My sister is not a big cook either so having just a few pans now is okay with her lifestyle. IMO the pan issue is the only downside for some to consider and for some that might not be an issue at all.

Re: Does anyone have an induction range?

My mother is aware of the cookware issue and has SS cookware. Her stove is the only stove she has had in 40 years of marriage, and the current one came with the house in 1977. It is goldenrod in color. It matched the vinyl floors, counter tops, and one of the bathrooms (the tub/shower, toilet and sink/counter). The other bathroom is all done in blue equipment and flooring. She is wanting to upgrade, but I do remind her that she isn't big on cooking right now away. My dad is disabled and could do more around the house, but doesn't, so ma doesn't bother cooking every night/meal.

Thanks for the input. At least your sister hasn't had issues with her range. I started looking for ma at Home Depot and Lowe's and read the reviews there. A few people complained about the Whirlpool one not working because of bad switches and lack luster customer service. Ma really wants one with a double oven and that particular one does have the nice sized double ovens in it.

Re: Does anyone have an induction range?

I have a monogram induction cooktop and am very happy cooking with it. I would choose induction again because I really like the control and it is so easy to clean. My close friend has a double oven range (not induction) she is very pleased with the two ovens and so frequently you really only need to use the small oven saving energy.

Re: Does anyone have an induction range?

Great point made. The top is easy to clean. That is good news and doesn't require special cleaners like glass tops do.

Another question is what happens if you leave something on to boil and it boils dry? Does it have safety features? My mother has bronzed more than one tea kettle by putting it on to boil and left to do something else forgetting about it, then finding it glowing red. She has also left cloths and pot holders on the electric range. She ruined some of my hand made pot holders that she loved. It is a wonder that she hasn't burned down the house yet.
