I realize it's not a competitive type show, but when Guy gets all orgasmic over the food he's eating at these places, the message is clear: "This is great stuff! You have to try it!" That's the last time I'll trust a recommendation from him! If he disagrees with the people who recommended a place he should be more honest about it, or else they shouldn't feature the place on his program.

He probably doesn't have any say in what restaurants are featured. It's an entertainment show and not meant to be a critique of the restaurant. Look in your newspaper or Yelp for that. Personally, I think it's a good way to find new restaurants, but I would still look at other reviews. (Or, maybe I should say, if I watched the show - I actually don't like it. When I'm looking for restaurants in a new city, I look at Tripadvisor, but that isn't always the best way either.)

He has been to 2 places here for his show and we were shocked he put either one of them on his show.....both the places are so bad the publicity didn't help their business. I used to enjoy his show but just couldn't watch him anymore cram stuff into his mouth with grease running all over his beard and face......gross!

I watched him for 20 minutes and could take no more. I suppose the guys may be able to tolerate the 'stuffing' but I can't. He has recommended 2 Dives in Maryland we where familiar with and we had already 'been there, done that'.

Yelp has been under fire for their reviews.

Re: Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives

Guy isn't going to tell someone right on DD&D that he doesn't like their food.

Taste is subjective. Just because Guy likes something (or doesn't like it) does not mean everyone else who tries it will agree. Anytime he's in a seafood shack, I already know I'm NOT going to like it, no matter what he says because I hate seafood. Smiley Happy

To me, this is basically pretty much a travel show. Just recommendations on places you might like to check out if you are in the area of the featured show, no more.

Guy Fieri has a great sense of humor, and timing, in my book. He reminds me of Sammy Hagar in appearance. I'm often amazed at how hard some of the people showcased seem to work to create their dishes. I don't think I would make a point of going somewhere because it had been featured on the show, but I like seeing the local vibes at the local dives. Local taverns are fun. Cheers!
