Re: Curious, any big Alton Brown followers? Do you use his recipes?

Loved his Good Eats show but can't stand Cutthroat Kitchen.   It is such a silly show and a waste of everyone's talent, AB's most of all. I was really hoping that we would be seeing him in some kind of educational show again this Fall but looks like it is just another absurd level of how to handicap chefs by way of ridiculous antics.

Am disappointed with Food Network in general.  Very few genuine cooking shows anymore it seems but loads of road trip shows.  Have always enjoyed Guy F's triple D show but how many copy cat shows are they going to produce?  Think I have seen at least 5 advertised for up coming release!

@Wackers3 I don't know if you caught the new shows on FN this weekend (and to be honest in my opinion hadn't been promoted at all) but Tyler Florence had a great new show highlighting the right and wrong way to prepare a given piece of meat and then there was one that was a take off of Flea Market Flip which gives teams "x" amount of money and then they complete head to head.  I found both shows fun and refreshing and to be honest completely mystified why (again) that these shows weren't more heavily promoted although they were a pleasant surprise on Saturday.

I don't like that show either, I just think it's mean.

They really need to find either a new talent director or program director because if it isn't a new road trip show they are turning everything into a Junior version.

Re: Curious, any big Alton Brown followers? Do you use his recipes?

Sorry I missed both new shows.  They sound interesting though so will watch for them. Thanks for the heads up. I have also seen no promotions on either one.  I do watch the Cooking Channel more these days as they still run chef driven cooking shows at leasitht in the AM but all they are advertising for this Fall is the new road trip shows.

I have caught some of the newer cooking shows on Sunday's on Food Network (such as Valerie's and the like) and enjoy them although am not sure if they are new shows or just repeats from prior seasons that I never caught before (new to me.)

Sounds like I am not alone is wishing FN tried harder to remember the name of their network and what made them popular to begin with!

I could not agree with you more!  Have had the exact same thoughts.  I have even contemplated e-mailing Food Network and suggesting they find a new programming director!  Who-ever has that job now sure shows no sign of "originality or creativity." Just the same type of programming over and over and over!

I wish they would put a real baking shown on, not that corny, cutesy Cupcake Wars or Cake Wars.

I really enjoy the Holiday and Spring Baking Championship shows when they're on.

Re: Curious, any big Alton Brown followers? Do you use his recipes?

Was looking for a Buffalo Chicken Wings recipe and found Alton's to be very good. Found it on Food Networks website. You steam the wings first, then bake them. A little extra work, but worth it; no rubbery skin. Agree with what has been said about Food Network here. In need of some new programming. Tired of Guy and many of the competition shows other than Chopped, Beat Bobby Flay and Worst Cooks. Will have to look for Tyler's new show. Giada tries to Italianize everything, and getting tired of her too. Like Ina and Ree. Also, just because you are/were a TV star doesn't necessary mean you need a cooking show. Food Network is starting to need some help.
