I took the Magic Bars (7 layer bars, Hello Dolly bars) recipe and put my own spin on it. I call them Country Road bars. The combination of sweet and salty is just right, IMHO.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 c Graham Cracker crumbs

1 stick of butter (1/2 cup)

1 c flake coconut

1 1/2 c broken pretzel pieces

1 c chopped salted peanuts

1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 c butterscotch chips

1 c chopped pecans

1 1/2 c (approximately) miniature marshmallows

1 can sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 350°. In a 9x13 baking dish, line with parchment paper or spray with non-stick baking spray.

-Mix the Graham Cracker crumbs with the butter

-Press into the bottom of the baking dish

-Drizzle 1/3 can condensed milk on top

-Sprinkle coconut

-Add layer of pretzels

-Add peanuts

-Add semi-sweet chips

-Add 2/3 cup butterscotch chips (save remainder for top)

-Add pecans

-Add mini marshmallows

-Sprinkle more coconut on top

-Add remaining butterscotch chips

-Drizzle the remaining condensed milk all over the top

Bake for 30 minutes at 350°. Let cool, cut into bars, and enjoy! Yields 12 nice size bars; however, you can get more with smaller squares.

What a great idea! I stopped making Hello Dolly's....just got tired of them. This salty addition is brilliant! Will definitely try this version soon.

The 7-Layer Bars that I usually make for Christmas are the first desserts to disappear! Everyone loves them. I always add extra ingredients, but never thought of tossing in salty items! Thanks for sharing, ajmrn!!

I have some mini marshmallows that were just sitting in the pantry and I was thinking of adding a layer of them to my 7 Layer Bars. Glad you tried it because now I know it will work out.
