Cost vs selling price on Frywall set

I am all for the entrepreneur and QVC making money on products within reason.  The gentleman who pitched the Frywall splatter guard on the Today program stated the landed cost for each was approximately $4.00.   QVC has decided to sell 2 for $38.28 plus $5.50 for shipping.   Nearly 5 times cost is unreasonable in my view.   I can make my own silicone splatter guard out of a baking mat for $8.00 or less.

@Sassealassea ... you are 100% correct .... they are not worth the price QVC is charging for them ..... I saw them in a mail order catalog for under 10.00 ...... plus they won't be shipped until 8/28 .... what a rip-off!!!!

I noticed that too.  What a waste --and I'm sure you still have to clean off the frywall with a damp cloth or soap and water.  Was this the item that caught fire in one of the demos?

Re: Cost vs selling price on Frywall set

I was under the impression silicone was fireproof, so I googled it and came up with various temperatures at which it will catch fire.  I think 842 F was the highest.  So someone left this item on the stove during a demo for one heck of a long time, in oil, I assume.  And I don't know why a seller would state his "landed" cost.  I have the flat spatter guards from several years ago, they are holding up well.
