Re: Cleaning dishwasher filter

My dishwasher doesn't have a filter. All it has is a strainer plate on the bottom where it catches large particles of food or small piece of plastic (cap or utensil). No filter to actually remove that I can see.

Went to YouTube and found the video for the cleaning of the filter for my dishwasher model. My husband and I watched it.

My husband said it was above his pay grade. And if he tried to get to the filter, we would definitely need a repairman. I agree.

Kitchenaid has redesigned their dishwashers and the filter is NOW real easy to clean. My model is older and not easy to get to.

You could use some baking soda, and vinegar run a cycle with it.

When you lose some one you L~O~V~E, that Memory of them, becomes a TREASURE.

Re: Cleaning dishwasher filter

Bosch owners, you do need to clean your filter monthly.  Super easy.  Turn counter clockwise remove, rinse off and replace.  For the Kitchenaid, push down lightly, turn and remove.  Rinse and replace.  Once a month you should add either citric acid crystals, (basically vitamin C), or vinegar and run a cycle with no dished in the machine.  Keeps minerals from building up.

Re: Cleaning dishwasher filter

I have a GE with two filters (one for small things, one for larger things), and the instruction book said to clean the filters once a month.  I rinse my dishes before putting them in the dishwasher (which you're really not supposed to do), and I am amazed at all the gunk in the filters every month, especially the small filter.

We have a Bosch DW and clean the filter about once a month.  The stuff it collects, Yuck. so cleaning it is a good idea.

I do as the instructions for your KA says. I turn it counterclockwise.  It comes out easily. I rinse it out in the sink. Remove any gunk and put it back in with a clockwise turn.

Glad you recommended, just pulled it out and washed the assembly, very little was on there so something's working ok.

It has never occurred to me to clean the filter on our Bosch dishwasher.  If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!

Since never cleaning it either just tried it as found a video, very easy to take out.

My filter had a minimal amount of stuff on it, so that's good.  Don't have issues with the dishes either, glasses come out sparkling.

I think that commercials saying that you don't have to preclean your dishes affected my family. I find dishes that have food particles on them. And that started me thinking of the filter. Thankfully my dishwasher does not smell and dishes come out clean.

I don't believe that about not cleaning the dishes either.  We've had a clogged drain twice with plumbers out here so I don't risk that again.

Luckily all good since a remodel and dishes are clean and glasses sparkle.

Just found my filter assembly on my Bosch and had very little residue in there.

No issues with dishes either, they come out clean and glasses sparkle.

Re: Cleaning dishwasher filter

Just got a new Whirlpool....installer said don't have to pre-rinse ......but if machine starts to stink....filter needs cleaning.

I wash gunk off - am old school type...he replied "me too" and laughed.

Decided to clean my dishwasher filter. Went onto the KitchenAid website for instructions.

Followed what the directions said and the according to the directions, you "gently turn assembly quarter turn counterclockwise and gently lift it out". When I turn it counterclockwise, it does not lift out. The assembly just spins. When you try and lift it nothing happens.

It sounds so easy in the directions. Anyone have a suggestion?

@drizzellla @Recheck the model number for your washer and for the instructions.
