Re: Chopping eggs for egg salad.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I have never made egg salad, but the pastry blender is what I use to make guacamole, and I was thinking the other day when Curtis Stone was demo'ing his smasher thing that I would probably also make egg salad that way.  I wand little chunks, not just mashed eggs.

To whomever showed the grate, Rachel Ray used that method on the Kelly & Ryan show as a shortcut for making guacamole awhile back.  All I could think was how difficult it would be to clean that grate.  Maybe I'm the only one, but I find cleaning those things a bit difficult and time consuming.

Re: Chopping eggs for egg salad.

As mentioned above, I use the Rikon Pull Chop for eggs, and love it. When I saw Mark Charles Misilli demonstrate that little thing, I knew I had to have it.

@eddyandme : I use empty tissue box in the laundry room as a small trash container for emptying the lint drawer and emptying the shirt or pants pockets. The empty tissue box is already decorated and takes up smaller space. My laundry room is a very small enclosed closet. Southern Bee

If you have a wire rack, like you'd use to cool cakes... place the rack over a bowl and push the eggs through.  Bam!  It takes seconds.  I think I learned the trick from the Pioneer Woman's show and have never done it any other way since then.

Whoa @house cat! I never would've thought of this on my own. I can see myself doing multiple eggs at one time by using a baking sheet, then the rack, then the eggs and then the bottom of another baking sheet, using it to push multiple eggs through the rack at one time. I will try this Saturday.. thank you so much !

Re: Chopping eggs for egg salad.

@dex : Your welcome. Two years ago had addition to house because laundry room door was out side and not great in the heat and cold. Friends came up with cute craft ideas for lint containers but I am not creative  or good making crafts. .... hoped they would gift me something. Laundry center across from the family room dining table. We were playing board games and I needed a box of Kleenex and therefore the idea 💡 and O cost or time needed. Friends then copied my 💡 instead of making the lint containers that was still on their project list.😁😳.Southern Bee

[ Edited ]

I made egg salad yesterday too.  I put them in a bowl too - I use a chopper that my Dad made many years ago.  It's sort of like a round cookie or biscuit cutter but it has a sharp serrated edge - and a long handle.  I use it for breaking up cooked ground meat into small pieces too.  And chopping nuts.

For about a year I've been buying already cooked hard-boiled eggs - 6 to a package.  Talk about easy lol.

Re: Chopping eggs for egg salad.

I was using an egg slicer for years, but I'd have to run it through 3 times in different directions.  The eggs always seemed too big and by the time I got to the third operation I had a mess on my hands.  A friend of mine recommended this round slicer, maybe 2 1/2 inches in diameter, with big serations on the edge.  I ordered a couple from Amazon as she needed a new one.  I was very skeptical, but this thing was much faster.  I don't know what it is called.  I use a bladed screwdriver to pop those lids, a strong one.

That is exactly the way my mother taught me to chop eggs!

@house_cat

I have never heard of doing them this way, but think I will now when I would like a more precise cut for the sake of presentation.
