I am not too wild about chocolate. Do you think I could substitute vanilla cake and pudding? Whoops-question already answered. Thanks

Yes to both NCasacade. You can also use fruit, so vanilla cake with vanilla pudding and peaches would be great, but you could also do a banana version with vanilla pudding and a spice cake for a banana bread type cake.

Cakes made by mixing together a box of cake mix and a box of pudding mix are an old staple.......and the cakes are moist and delicious! I've done this over the years with chocolate cake/chocolate pudding, yellow cake/vanilla pudding, lemon or yellow cake and lemon pudding.........and you can doubtless think of other delicious combos.
This isn't what I call a "dump cake", though. I am familiar with old dump cake recipes that usually involve mixing a box of cake mix and a can of fruit.

I have had one half of a box of fudge cake mix in my fridge since Christmas and about one fourth of a jar of peanut butter. So this past week-end I mixed up the cake per instructions (one-half) and then mixed peanut butter with a half cup or so of powdered sugar and swirled around into the cake mix already in the pan. Took about 20 minutes to bake and was very very good. It is amazing what you can come up with when you lay out all your mismatched/leftover ingredients.
I have always wanted to try a dump cake since I have had good luck with just dumping for casseroles. My problem is I really love pudding as pudding.

The peanut butter sounds awesome with chocolate cake. I'll add that to my list of things to try. I also love pudding as pudding, so that is why I had the pudding too!

When I mix mine up I put in three not four individual plastic containers and let sit for about a minute then put one Nilla wafer down the side of the container. Then about an hour before my dinner/dessert time I will take any other cookies or pieces of brownie/cake (all bite size) and put on the other sides of the container to soften up.
If I am really feeling worthy I will put on top of the pudding a couple of tablespoons of ice cream that melts down into it. I got that ideal from eating Outback's brownie ice-cream fudge dessert. My pudding and ice cream are all sugar free but not the add in baked goods. Enjoy!!!!

Thanks for the recipe! I will definitely be trying this!

ETA that both links from the OP look pretty similar, except in the first one the pudding was mixed with the milk and then the cake mix was stirred in.

Don't even mention a dump truck, huh?
