Once again today at Publix, I bought a carton of medium eggs for 65 cents, versus around $1.50 for large.

Got a real shock one day a few weeks ago when I actually happened to look at the price of eggs in general and saw the huge difference for medium size.

We don't know the difference in size at our house.  It has always seemed that Georgia eggs are larger, anyway, than what  I was used to further north.

So now you know to look and compare, if you never did so before (which was my ignorant shopping habit until recently).

What about Jumbo? At either price, eggs are one if the best bargains in the grocery store! Love eggs!

I only buy my eggs locally from the Amish. These eggs are still warm in the carton and are jumbo size. No extra price. Support your locals ladies.

If I purchased medium, I'd have to use two eggs for every large.  So, the savings isn't that great for me.

I remember eggs being larger in the past, the large looking more like medium now.  I always buy jumbo. 

I pay around $1.89 a doz for jumbo.

This is true about the extra large or jumbo

In some of the baking blogs I read, a few times it's been mentioned when the older recipes were written, eggs were larger, it's recommended to add an additional egg to compensate,, or an additional yolk.  If that makes sense

A medium egg looks like a quail egg to me.

If I was on a dietary restriction but still needed a daily egg, I might buy medium.

But I do a lot of baking, a medium egg is of no use to me. Maybe I could use medium as the extra egg or yolk in some of my recipes.

The price variance b/t non-organic and organic is also astronomical. I still reach for the organics though.

I usually buy large eggs from the grocery store. I have never understood why there is such a big difference in prices for eggs due to size. I understand why organic is more expensive.

I never see medium eggs in stores around here.  Even if it is $6 a carton that's 50 cents an egg.  What please tell me can you get for 50 cents?  Nothing!

I buy a dozen eggs, never eat them (don't like eggs), keep and use them for cooking.  After about 3 weeks I throw them out and buy another dozen.  They're cheap here.

As far as baking goes, I really don't want to be measuring slightly beaten eggs to get the right amount.
