Perhaps those that wish to see the host eat the food can explain why you want to see them eat.
I never found watching others eat to be a deciding factor in whether I make a purchase. I don't get an evocative response from it. I guess I just don't understand why watching someone chew is important.

I don't care either way but I think there is fodder here for a hilarious Saturday Night Live episode!

I would wager the food sits out much longer than usual, because of the drastically reduced staff, making it potentially unsafe for consumption.😊

And food that's not prepared in front of the cameras may have been doctored to make it more attractive or hold up better under the lights. I know that in the old days, glycerine was often used by food stylists to make salads look glossy and appetizing. I doubt that would taste good. Who knows what kind of acid wash is given to cut-up fruits and vegetables that would otherwise brown quickly.
Last point, maybe the food that's not eaten is fake food and there's no waste at all. My nutritionist had a lot of fake food to help people learn about portion sizes. She had an adorable pat of rubber butter that someone stole from her. She and I were both sad about that, since I liked to play with it while listening to her drone on about carbs.

I think, as others have said, they are adhering to CDC guidelines. Before this all started I think the staff probably helped with some of the food- at least the food that hadn't been "played with " a lot! I know from a family member that is what happened on other cooking shows (before the pandemic). ![]()
