Can You Freeze Fresh Apples?

My DH brought home a bushel of delicious apples from a farm. There is no way we can eat all that, and there is just so much apple cake we will eat. Can I freeze these, cut up with the skin on, and then use them when I make my smoothies? I don't want to peel them as that is where most of the nutrition is.
