Re: CEREAL KEEPERS

[ Edited ]

I always buy several large boxes of cereal from Costco. I pour the cereal in Lock'nLocks - the rectangular ones - 10" tall x 5" across. I outgrew the smaller size of Lock 'n Lock. I also keep bread in the large size ones - and store in my freezer (in my garage).

I don't shop often - so I stock up.

Many items in my large pantry are in Lock'nLock -- keeps food fresh for many months and keeps out the bugs.

@KatieB - I also found that the Lock & Lock cereal containers did not keep my food as fresh as I wanted it to be, and I think the problem is the fact that the seals around the spouts are not quite tight enough.

I started using these two sets of Lock & Lock (the first is not currently available but returns to stock fairly often—I've purchased three sets at different times over the past two years) and always have nice, fresh cereal and other pantry goods:

NARROW PANTRY SET

CHUBBY PANTRY SET

Good luck!

HA! HA!

Sounds like my brother. He ate a big bowl of cereal for breakfast and another big bowl for "midnight snack". I was lucky if I got one breakfast out of a box of cereal that I liked.

I still have a Tupperware cereal keeper. But we rarely eat cold cereal. So it sits empty in the cabinet, all alone in the corner.

I only buy cereal when we are camping in our RV. I have to keep everything tight and dry or it gets stale in a day or two.

Cereal is best kept in a good quality zip lock bag.  I can keep cereal fresh this way for weeks. No moisture gets in at all.

Plastic containers do not work well for me when used alone, but I often put the zip locked bags in a plastic container so they store better in the pantry.
