Butter Consumption Reaches a 40 Year High

Americans are using more butter than they have in 40 years.

Here is the explanation.

Is it true for you?

I know it is for me, since I've been turned off by all the claims of unhealthy margarine.

I always use organic butter, never the faux versions. I don't think I've eaten margarine since the 80's! I also use extra virgin olive oil, too.

We only use butter now. Actually, I started using butter again several years ago. Margarine has never seemed appealing to me. Why shy away from natural food and think that the food full of chemicals is better for you? We all would be better off if we used common sense and quit listening to what the so called experts say.

One diet that I found said that fruit is the enemy. Dr. Oz said the other day that for some people eating a potato is worse than eating a candy bar. Come on.......... IMHO, eating God's food is better than man-made, processed food any day. Potatoes and fruit will remain in my diet.

I eat organic & local butter because it is a healthy fat.

It has absolutely nothing to do with recent news. They act like it is something new. I've eaten butter for many years and have avoided trans fats as long as I can remember. I grew up with mostly that horrible margarine because they fed us the con that it was healthy & butter was bad. Just like they told us vegetable/soy oil was healthy & coconut oil was bad.

I never went the margarine route because it's just nasty. It smells gross. It tastes gross.

My butter use is up and down, depending on what I'm cooking. But I keep it in check. Butter is a good thing. Smiley Happy

For sautéing I like a combination of a little butter and a little olive oil. That way you get the flavor, but keep the use to a minimum.

I never grew up eating margarine and have never purchased it. I try to use olive oil in place of butter where I can. Butter used to be very expensive. I think it's more affordable now and many more people are buying it instead of the nasty margarine.

I happen to agree with the article...I think anything natural is better for you than something with all the chemicals and preservatives they use today. We are trying to do this in our own home.

I prefer the taste of butter to margarine any day.

When I was still eating dairy I only used butter, had not bought margarine since 1972. Once I gave up dairy I tried one of the vegan spreads, did not like it. It had palm oil, yuck. Now most of my cooking is no added fat, when I do need fat I use olive oil or coconut oil. I still buy butter for my husband for his toast.

I love butter! Use spray bottle though.
