Re: Bread in stores

[ Edited ]

I don't know if Village Hearth bread is a regional thing or not but I really like their cottage bread.  Keeps well.  Every once in awhile I'll get a loaf with a hole in a few slices but it's pretty rare.  It tastes like good soft white bread and toasts well.

ETA I just checked and it's known as Country Hearth in other regions of the country.

I agree that store-bought bread has gotten really bad. I used to love Brownberry breads. They did something terrible to the recipes. It tastes awful.

I especially hate the breads that say "no sugar." Well they use artificial sweeteners and it tastes dreadful.

I usually keep a loaf of store bread on hand for sandwich emergencies in spite of it all. Otherwise I bake my own bread.

I've been buying bread from the local farm that I live near these last few months---got an onion soup foccacia  the last time---OMG--was that amazing---but need to eat it up fast--- being homemade --unless you freeze it--and being so darn delicious-won't last long.

That's the only bread I buy but don't eat it every day. I love it!

That's why I make my own.  Refuse to pay $5 a loaf for garbage.

@SharkE how is the Fosamax?  I had to start taking it in September.  Have you gotten good results with it?

@Icegoddess- I checked our local Kroger store (Ralphs in So. Ca.) and it is not in stock here either.  I liked it also.  Oroweat has a honey oat bread you might want to try although it is costs more.  I doubt it was Caraway seeds, that seed is used in rye bread.  Good luck.

Been on it about a yr . Dr. hasn't bought up a bone density test yet. The one I had last August/23 wasn't too good why they put me on this once a week pill.

Sister takes it too. The oldest one won't take it.

I wake up every mon. reminding myself "This is Fosamax Mon."    Take one pill with 8 oz of water.

NO SUBSTITUTES ! Has to be WATER !   Put off eating

for at least a half hour. I go ahead and make it an hr to be on safe side. Just get on computer and hr. zips by.

Do not lay down, stay in upright position want to make sure the pill goes straight thru to the stomach and breaks up alone. After hour I go eat breakfast and write down that i took it for that week.

I also take 2 Calcium pills with Vitamin D DAILY. Fosamax, is just ONCE A WEEK !

Only time their a pain is if you have to have a tooth pulled. You have to quit taking it to get out of system for at least a month, have tooth pulled and wait 3 months before getting back on it. Routine dental work is OK, fillings, bondings, cleanings. Just anything affecting the gums is the problem.  You can read up on it. Will scare you to death and I had a dental tech telling me to get off of it.  My Dr. had a fit ! I got back on it ROFL  "You want to be bent over walking close to the ground like a hunchback needing a cane "?

He put the fear of God in me, so, I'm back on it.
