Bread in stores

you can't find a good sandwich bread any more.

It's either too dry or has holes running thru it.

Bought one brand for a long time till it started being

dry long before the expiration time.

So, I switched over to another brand. Go to make toast with my favorite Smuckers cherry preserves and it is so hole -e jelly is leaking out all over .

Can't any of these bread bakers bake a decent loaf ?

I couldn't agree more. Every time I purchase bread, it seems like it's beyond it's expiration date. It tastes dry and old. That's because it probably is.

And, yes, they are often with big holes that my peanut butter falls through ... Lol. But mostly, there is no taste of fresh bread. Might as well be eating cardboard. I've thrown away so many loaves.

Thank God I can make my own.

You just want a loaf of bread at the handy all the time to eat with your meals.

Too much to ask I guess.

I quit buying bread years ago. The wheat they use to bake stuff these days is nothing like it was when I was growing up. Today wheat is all GMO which has made the wheat full of gluten and it has significantly lost it's nutritional value. Worthless.

ETA-

It's so bad that they have to 'fortify' the flour with minerals and vitamins to make it anything worth eating.

@SharkE Did you ever try Ezekiel (in the frozen section) or Dave's Killer Bread. I have no problems with either.

Tastes like cardboard is right.

I am fond of rye bread but what's sold has no taste or the texture is too soft. I can buy some from the store bakery section but it's expensive and goes stale quickly. Sigh.

@SharkE. Are you referring to sliced white bread? It has been doughy and awful as long as I remember. In my adult life, I've bought nothing but whole or multi-grain bread. It has some "guts" to it, is much more nutritious, has fiber and no holes. It also keeps a lot longer.

Another bad product is Smuckerrs preserves which they cheapened to a thin jam with no recognizable fruit. Do yourself a favor and try a British import. I got a variety in a box in a QVC gourmet show. World of difference and well worth it. Cherry is my favorite too.
