Re: Anyone looking for a Kitchenaid Mixer?

[ Edited ]

@SouthernBee   I was like you when I first got my bowl lift.  The metal tab on the inside of the "neck" is key.  Place your bowl on the pins and engage.

With you hand push down forcefully at the back of the inside of the bowl so that you depress that clip and that tab   then locks the bowl in place.  I wasn't pushing hard enough at first, afraid I might break something.

@Bridgegal   You can process much heavier batters much more quickly with the bowl lift.  But if you like to bake and cook any Kitchen Aid stand mixer is better than a hand mixer and worth the investment.

I hope I can ask a KA question here.  I read somewhere that KA make s 2 types of stand mixers.  One where the bowl sits on the bottom and the 'head' raises up and one where the bowl is held by little arms and that one is better than the other.

Any input on this?  Thanks.

My old mixer was a tilt head and the new one is a bowl lift one. Is one better than the other? I can't really say yet. The bowl lift one is bigger, supposedly stronger, but my tilt head one did very well for decades. I like them both.

Re: Anyone looking for a Kitchenaid Mixer?

Just giving this a bump to let people know it's back on sale again for the real Black Friday. I've used mine a lot now (three breads, soft pretzels, chocolate cake and frosting) and it's been a great investment. I highly recommend it. The dough hook on this one is vastly superior to the old dough hook on my old mixer. For $199, it's a great deal. I'm very, very pleased with it.

Re: Getting the bowl on. Tilt the bowl forward, slide it over the two pins, then press down firmly on the back of the bowl and it'll lock right into place. Getting it lined up with the pins first is the key. It's not hard once you get the hang of it.

These Kitchen Aids are the Energizer Bunny of the mixer category.   I bought one from an auction 10 years ago that is still going strong and it is an ancient model predating anything QVC has had.

@gardenman

Great choice...biggest mistake I ever made was "downsizing" my KA mixer from the Pro600 lift style to the KA Artisan.

Not that it isn't OK but it doesn't have the power of the other KA.

Thankfully I'm no longer doing "heavy doughs" or big batches since its just me now.

Enjoy that yummy bread and Happy Thanksgiving!
