Like last night...I made French toast for the grandchildren (ages 2, 4 & 6). They love my French toast! 2 eggs, heavy cream, cinnamon, then pats of butter & syrup. The 2 older children always eat 2 slices, the little girl eats one whole slice.
Sure enough, the older girl ate her 2 slices, but the boy only wanted 1. (That was most unusual!) The little girl was eating, but not enthusiastically.
Enough batter was left for DH (2 slices) and one last one for me.
When I tasted mine I couldn't believe that instead of sprinkling in the cinnamon, I had inadvertenly reached for the cayenne pepper!
DH ate his, but he detected something amiss! Not that it was the most awful, but I did end up giving him most of mine, and then he also finished the little girl's!
I should have worn my glasses!
Please share your cooking errors! (So I don't feel so bad!)

Does putting sugar in grits instead of salt count?
We just 'pretended' it was cream of wheat, LOL!

I made a pumpkin roll for thanksgiving, I noticed that when I poured it on the counter cookie sheet, it looked a little off but didn’t think no more about it. Got it out of the oven, thinking there’s something different about the color. Then I realized that I hadn’t even put any pumpkin in it. Needless to say- i hard to start over.

OMG lol. I have of fear of reaching for chili powder instead of cinnamon.
I've been making the same chili recipe for over 40 years. Once I thought it was a little bland - not spicy at all. I had forgotten to put any spices in.
Another time I made pickled eggs (which I make twice a year) - I was at work and hubby decided to have one. I had forgotten to shell the eggs.

Many. I blamed it on the stove.

A couple of Christmas's ago I decided to make a sweet potato casserole with the mini marshmallows on top. Popped it into the oven no worries until I turned around and the entire top was on fire (I had a Breville oven so it looked like that Yule Log that TV stations have on around the holidays). I quickly unplugged the oven and the flames went out (and the casserole was actually a bit salvagable) but that vision will never leave my memory. It looked so festive . . . sigh.
Thanks for starting this thread @Harpa, I think it will be good for more than a few laughs . . . ![]()

There have been a few, but this is the worst. When we were first married, we were as poor as church mice, so my Dad would give us some food from a friend who was a Dietz & Watson distributor. For our first Easter, he got us what I thought was a raw 10 pound beef roast. It was so big that I invited my in-laws, as well as my husband’s Aunt and Uncle with their 4 kids. The 2 ladies couldn’t make it, but everyone else came. When we sat down to dinner, everything was delicious except for the roast beef. It was so salty we could barely eat it! It turned out that it was already cooked (very rare roast beef) and by re-roasting it, the salt had concentrated even more. Uncle Pat’s mother must have taught him to be sure to compliment his hostess for dinner because his parting remark was that the vegetables were delicious. He was so sweet!
