I never cease to be amazed at the imagination and skill of cake decorating artists. Their creations are so intricate and detailed, they must spend hours on each creation only to see them eaten. It must break their hearts. Here are a couple I've seen lately, quite different.

True artists.

That is sculpture to me. Not cake. It looks more to be seen than good to eat. Make it in clay if you are going to do that.

@Sooner It's true, they've used that rolled fondant to mold pieces of the display as well as to cover the cakes. It doesn't taste very good. However, we traditionally want CAKE not ceramics for certain occasions.

The sewing machine cake photo was taken in someone's kitchen. It was not in a professional bakery. Wow!

@Kachina624 Thank you! Exactly my point! We want to eat it and see the lusciousness and the texture and the flavors.
Think a big ole Black Forest cake with dark chocolate ganache and dark cherries soaked in Kirschwassa spilling out between the layers with the Kirsch flavored whipped cream, crowned with more ganache and cream and cherries and Kirsch sprinkled on.
Got you going? LOL!!! That does it for me.

That sewing machine cake is a true work of art - - so cute and fun.
The second cake is absolutely stunning!

I love both of them, that sewing machine cake is so creative and took a lot of planning! The Hummer is a work of art.....

There used to be a show probably on the food network where bakers created a dessert from specified themes etc designed by one of the world's best bakers.
It started with a z I think. It was so fascinating even for someone who is not into baking or cooking.
I'll try to remember the name![]()
Think this is it!-

Duff Goldman, baker had a show on Food Network and those cakes were also amazing. He still has his bakery in Baltimore, Charm City Cakes on Remington Ave. Works of art. My sister and I love trolling around in the city when I go home and we went up there a few years ago. To watch them create is the most amazing thing...they make it look so easy but I know it's a talent. We grabbed a beautiful cupcake to eat and I didn't want to destroy it, but I did in 3 bites...delicious.
