You are very welcome on the rotisserie! I hope it works out you!
I get what your saying about Whole Foods. It is a high end market, both in price and clientele. In this area, Trader Joe's would be a competitor, but not Aldi's. Aldi's still has that "low rent" reputation in this area.
Have you seen the Aldi's commercial? My mouth fell at the fact that they have commercials now.

We have a lot of Aldi's around here and see their commercials fairly often. We also have more than a few Trader Joe's.
Whole Foods purchased about eight stores of a big chain that had been in the area and went bankrupt. One has now opened by my house and it is quite possibly the most annoying store I have ever been in. I don't mind paying money for great produce and proteins but when the staff's attitude is lacking I have a huge problem shopping in a store that charges that kind of money that has a bad attitude.
There is an older Whole Foods that is about 30 minutes from me that is very well run and I used to enjoy snooping in there occasionally. I think next time I get the urge to shop Whole Foods I'll just make sure there is enough gas in my car . . . ![]()

Hi mtc!
The Trader Joe's that I go to is about 30 miles away. I like it because it's similar to the ones I went to in LA.
I just can't do Whole Foods anymore. They had an ugli fruit for $9. An organic one at the chain was $2. Talk about annoying! My neighbor in LA called them Whole Paycheck.
Did you get any hyacinths from Aldi's a few weeks ago? They smell heavenly!

You pay 25 cents to get your cart from the corral and you get it back when you return it. Keeps the parking lot free of carts.

Thanks Marcy! It also ensures the carts are returned, thus minimizing the employees who need to round them up from the parking lot.

You don't have to buy in bulk. Most of the items are not brand names although sometimes they have some. I find that most are just as good as brand names.

If you go to the Aldi U.S. website, you can get on their e-mail list for alerts, etc..

All grocery stores (whether Aldi or not) in Germany use the coin-release cart system. Labor is expensive in Europe and they also worry about car damage AND car parks are small and crowded. A loose cart would be a danger. So you put a 1 Euro coin in the slot and put your cart back into the corral and retrieve it after your shopping is done.

I saw a commercial for Aldi's over the weekend. I was surprised because TV ads cost a lot.
I can't see Aldi's and Whole Foods having the same customers. The stores appear to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
Aldi's is doing local ads - just in the markets where they have stores. First Quarter advertising is not as expensive as pre-holiday ads are. In fact, the highest TV usage (Households Using Television - HUT levels) are in 1Q - when it's too cold and dark to do a lot outside.
ALL the supermarket chains are advertising now in my market - which is mid-size.

I picked up some toasted ravioli and a meaty pizza. I didn't see anything in the middle aisle that I wanted. I got some wing sauce and wings for hubby. And, of course, a little chicken.
It wasn't an exciting grocery trip, but I got everything I wanted for next week.
