I think you should also consider a person’s jewelry style. It’s awkward to receive a piece of jewelry that isn’t to your taste and then feel obligated to wear it.

I love owls. I have well over 100 owls of all kinds. Most of them are packed away in boxes because I got tired of dusting all of them. LOL!!!

While the necklace is pretty I would not wear it. I cannot stand anything around my neck including shirt collars.

ITA. Even if I received a piece I did not like I would not wear it or feel obligated to wear it.
