Hello, all!
It's November and time has really flown!
A warm welcome to all who would like to drop in and chat about watches. Right now I am quite busy, but I'll be back. :}

Java: thanks for starting our November thread.
Jena; Our watch needs have changed since we have amassed our collections. Automatics have a strong appeal. And I still consider the internal specifications of the watch strongly. Since I don't need anymore watches, why should it matter to me if the watch will last a long time and be of superior quality? Shouldn't my decision be based on price/appeal evaluation?
Ladies, what do you all think?

Lately all I wear are the automatics. I think it's time to go looking thru the Quartz and see how many deadies are there. Bummer.
Thanks Java for keeping us current.
Its funny how the SS 33mm S. Coifman is $450 and it doesnt' change. I should have kept that watch out when I returned the Meteorite. For $185 after discount was a fantastic deal to give up. Stoopid. ![]()
LJ, In answer to your question, at this point we should be able to buy what we want.
. How's that for an answer? ![]()

I saw a kind of nice looking Citizen Eco-Drive watch in a magazine, the style is called Modena & it's rose gold plated. In addition to automatics, I might consider a light powered watch like this style/brand, but I'm sitting on my hands & staying strong.......for now!

I agree with Jena.
Buy what you love and what you can afford.
I really love the Lotus watch with the strap set. The dial is gorgeous. At $79 plus tax and ship, it's worth getting.
I still might get it. It's not Swiss, but nice price point. Does what a Bably Lupah does with style. As I type this, I am wearing an Android and is it Swiss? Nope. Just very distinctive.
That's what drew me to Invicta, then Renato. At that time, we had access to high quality, plus somethng very different. (And no, they weren't always Swiss.)
I still want a Mickey Mouse watch! (I never sized the SANII and sold it on ebay.)
At this point, get what you love and enjoy it--whatever it is. Life is too short.

Some of those Eco-Drive watches are really pretty.
Speaking of cool watches....I just noticed that evine has Seiko's Sportura kinetic watch. Very interesting. A kinetic movement. I've seen them in the store. Very attratcitive timepieces.
Those rarely go on sale.
One other thing: Seiko still uses sapphire crystals on some of their more expensive models.
Definition:
Kinetic watches (invented by Seiko) contain a large rotor that charges the battery with the movement of the wearer. ... That said, kinetic watches generally have a six-month power reserve, so simply wearing your watch is the simplest solution.
No batteries to change. Yay.

Java, thx for the Kinetic info. I've never paid any attention to the Sieko's before. So in other words that is Sieko's version of an automatic. Only one, that I see and it's expensive. I'll have to watch it.

There are other places to obtain the Seiko kinetic watches. One thing for sure: I almost have never heard anyone complain about a crummy Seiko.
As watch enthusiasts, we always looked to the Swiss for the best pieces. In the meantime, the efforts of Citizen and Seiko are not to be sneezed at.
I've posted about my little Eco Drive watch that was a handbag charm bracelet. I still have it.
But you see, I've always been a little geeky, so if you point out a watch with an idifferent movement, I'm thinking: "Cool." And any nicely constructed timepeice which does not require a battery for operation piques my interest.

JQ, thanks for the heads-up that Seiko makes a solar type watch, like the Citizen EcoDrives. My workhorse watch that I wore to work every day for about 10+ years was a quartz movement Seiko sport watch with a sapphire crystal after I'd destroyed several lesser watches by whacking & scraping them against things at work. I bought it in 1995 at Costco for $168 (which I think was pretty spendy at the time) & though it looks a little bit beat up if you look at it too closely, it's still running like a champ & the sapphire crystal is perfect! I did have the movement serviced & the gasket replaced when I still lived in WA, but it's never failed me.
I'll have to look at the Seiko solar/kinetic watches. I have one Citizen EcoDrive & I just leave it sitting where it gets light during the day, so it's never stopped running. I'm in the NBZ right now, though!

Ok, I've been watching that S Coifman 33mg SS/char. MOP dial and it's been sitting at $450 for quite awhile. The last couple days 642-035 it dropped to the anniversary price of $224.68. If you held their c/c another 15% was offered. Well 15 minutes before they took that offer away I found it. The devil in me...
pushed me off the fence again and I bought it back. That 15% discount gets me every time. It's an automatic and that's the only reason really I'm buying a watch I don't need. I just like this one and unless it's defective it's staying in my collection this time. Now the offer has gone away and the price is still lowered. I don't know if I was lucky or not to catch it 15 minutes before it expired. But I snagged the SS again. I love the GT. (I own that too.) ~crazy, I know~
