I always have worn pearl studs and I have a beautiful pearl necklace that was my mom's.  It has alternate 14k beads same size as pearls about every 6 rows of pearls.  Very different. Don't wear too often but I treasure it and will pass down to my kids.  To me pearls are timeless.

I do have some good pearls, but I also have some stunning free form Honora bracelets which are my "everyday pearls".

Pearls aren't making a comeback because they never went away.  They are classic.

If we weren't wearing pearls, how would we ever clutch them when the need arose?  lol

When I wear pearls now it is in the form of earrings like these (Brighton).    I have these and, to me, with the silver look... they aren't as dressy and I definitely wear them with jeans, too. I would also wear a single strand necklace with a blouse. They have such a softened look and, as others have said, I think they bring light to the face.

@Shanus - I've always loved pearls since I was a little girl.  Have many Honora pearls.  In fact was just looking at them today and reminding myself how much I like them and need to start wearing them again, even for every day.  I like pearls with gems, with Diamonique - I just like pearls with everything.  Always look good no matter what one is wearing.
